Flawless Ruin
I inhale a shaking breath, reeling from the force of his passion. He slowly releases me, and I curl against him, listening to his heartbeat slow.
“You’ll figure it out,” I whisper softly, snuggling closer. “I believe in you.”
Caleb sits up.
“Try and get some sleep,” I urge him, but he shakes his head. He slips out of my embrace and gets out of bed. I watch, confused, as he pulls fresh clothes from the closet.
“Where are you going? It’s two in the morning.”
“I’m not going to be able to sleep.” His voice is gruff as he finishes dressing and puts on his wristwatch. “I’m going to work.”
Then he turns and leaves, without anything, not even a goodbye kiss. A moment later, I hear the front door slam.
And here I am, in his apartment, alone, wondering why someone so close to me can feel so far away.
