Bitter
Chapter 14
Luckily the wedding isn’t until the afternoon, so I didn’t have to wake up too early. Good thing too because I could not fall asleep last night. I grab my phone off the nightstand to check the time. I don’t know why, but I find myself re-reading Reed’s texts from last night.
Me: I can’t sleep.
Reed: What does it take to wear you out woman?
Me: Haha would it be weird if I said I wanted to cuddle?
Reed: How am I supposed to respond to that?
Me: However you want. Stop acting like you owe me something.
Reed: I don’t act like that.
Me: You can stop pretending like you need to take care of me just so you can avoid admitting what you actually want.
Reed: What do I want?
Me: How am I supposed to know? You won’t admit it. See previous message.
Reed: Smartass.
Reed: I want you to think about me while you fall asleep.
Me: What about you?
Reed: You know what.
Me: How am I supposed to think about it when you won’t let me see it?
Reed: Use your imagination.
Reed: Or don’t. Either way, next time I fuck you, it will be down your throat.
Me: Is that a promise?
Reed: Yes.
My bedroom door suddenly opens. I didn’t think to lock it last night because I didn’t think someone would just barge right in here. I gasp as I look toward the door. I see Reed leaning up against the doorframe looking sexy as ever.
“God, Reed! Don’t you knock?” I shout.
He smirks at me as he crosses his arms across his chest, making his forearms flex. “Mom told me to get you for breakfast.” He cocks an eyebrow at me. “You watching porn on your phone or something?”
I open my eyes wide. “No!” I shout.
He gives a mocking laugh. “Mhmm…”
“I wasn’t!” I deny again.
He grins. “I know that look on your face, Wren. I know what it means.”
I let the blanket fall as I sit up straighter, leaving me only in a sleep tank that barely leaves anything to the imagination. “What are you going to do about it?” I challenge him.
“Careful, Wren,” he smirks, his voice sounding sexy as hell.
“Or what?” I smirk right back.
His eyes fall below my face. “Or I’ll give you exactly what you want.”
“Good. Because I’m not going to deny myself what I want anymore.” I run my eyes down his body dramatically.
He reaches down in his pants and adjusts himself in front of me like it’s no big deal. My eyes shoot back up to his, and the mischievous smile he has on his face makes my body shiver. “You’re so bad.” I let out a small laugh.
He smirks back. “Better not keep momma waiting. And put on a fucking shirt. I’d hate for one of the cousins to get the wrong idea.”
I make a fake gasp. “But Reed, they are family. What kind of person do you think I am?”
He blows out a long breath and rolls his eyes up to the ceiling. “Fuck. We’re going to hell.” His eyes fall back to me, but they are as mischievous as ever. “Don’t be long,” he says and then steps back and shuts the door behind him.
I fall onto my back on the bed and bite my lip while looking at the ceiling. I sigh in pure happiness. I haven’t felt this way in such a long time. It’s like all the heaviness that has been weighing me down is finally giving me a break, and I can take a breath of relief.
I only get ready enough to be presentable. I am going to fix myself up for the wedding after we eat. I walk out of the bathroom and throw on a sports bra and t-shirt and then walk out still in my sleep shorts. I tie my hair up in a bun as I head toward the kitchen.
