Redemption (Shattered Souls MC 2)

When he’d come home from getting a shipment it was people everywhere, buying it from him. When he’d come back from laying low, someone died. Putting all the pieces together, it is finally making sense. This isn’t the first time he’s done it. I just wasn’t paying close enough attention to notice. Now that I have, I need to figure out where the hell he goes.

It can’t be New York, there’s no way he’d stay that far away. It has to be somewhere local or at least close enough to be able to rush in if he has to. I’ve thought of all the places I’ve been with him. Nothing sticks out as a place that he could be comfortable, relaxed, and still in charge. I’m just about to bang my head on the table, when I remember a locked box, he gave me years ago.

“Holy shit,” I whisper, and jump up. I run to Ivy’s room and throw the door open. “Get dressed, hurry.” I grab my phone, keys, and purse, rushing to the front door. Finn is sitting in the living room, paying no attention to me. Not willing to start a fight with Zane, I stand in front of Finn. “Let’s go. We are going to my house.”

He jumps up, shaking his head. “No fucking way. Zane didn’t say anything about going there,” he crosses his large arms, staring at me with a serious expression.

I roll my eyes and pick up my phone. I call Z and wait for him to answer. It only rings twice before I hear his deep, sexy voice.

“Hey babe,” he answers.

“Listen. I need to go to my house to get something. It’s really important,” I look at Finn, knowing I can’t say what it is in front of him.

“Harper, it can wait until I can go with you,” he replies.

I clear my throat and turn my back to Finn. “No, it can’t. Remember what we were talking about this morning. I think I figured it out. I need to get to my house, Z.”

“Fuck,” he breathes into the phone. “Finn drives your car and goes in first. No fucking around, Harper, get what you need and get out.”

I smile, looking at Finn. “You got it, baby. I’ll text you when we get back.”

“Harper, please don’t do anything stupid. Get what you need and get home,” he whispers.

He doesn’t believe I’m just getting what I need, and I can’t say I blame him. I haven’t exactly given him too many reasons to trust me. I’ve run off a few times, making shit worse. “I promise. Love you,” I say.

“Love you, too.”

I toss my keys at Finn. “Zane said you’re driving and you’re going in the house first.”

On the way to the house, Ivy keeps questioning me, but I can’t tell her anything. I can’t tell either of them. I just need to get the lock box and get out. I’m sure my father has my house being watched. I don’t want to be there any longer than I need to.

When Finn pulls into the driveway, it feels like a lifetime ago since I’ve been here. I used to love getting home at night. It was the only place I felt comfortable and safe. Now, the only thing I think of is seeing my house destroyed and my mom’s pictures ripped up. As with everything connected to my father, nothing but misery comes out of it.

“Let’s fucking do this and get out of here,” Finn says, opening the car door.

Ivy grabs my hand, looking at the dark house. “What the fuck are you doing?”

“I just need to grab a lock box. It has important paperwork I need in there. Come on, it’s right in my bedroom,” I say, pulling her hand to have her follow me out.

Finn has the door open and turns the lights on, so we just walk in. I rush back to my bedroom and flip the light on. I move my nightstand and open the vent that is behind it. I reach inside, feeling for the box. My eyebrows dip as I feel nothing. I lay on my stomach and look inside.

“Oh.Fuck.Me.” I jump up and rush out to the living room. “Let’s go, now!”

I grab Ivy’s arm and yank her toward the door. “What the fuck, Harper?”

“Finn, hurry the fuck up!” I yell.

He slams the door behind us, and we run to the car. Once inside, he peels out of there and I sag against the seat.

“What the fuck?” Finn yells, looking at me through the rearview.

“My box is missing,” I whisper.

“Fucking talk, Harper,” he growls. He’s never gotten angry before; this is a side I’m not used to. I’ve really made a lot of people's lives shit because of things I’ve done or because of who I’m related to.

“My father was there.”

“Mother fucker,” Finn yells, smacking the steering wheel.
