Pretty Little Sins (Kings of Bolten 2)
“You promised you'd kill me if I was with anyone else. You told Levin to kill me.”
“He failed to follow through on my orders.” He scowled at me before lowering his voice to say, “I knew he would. I was counting on it.”
“So you would've killed me?” I crinkled my brows at him.
“If it had come to that, yes. Death would've been an easy escape compared to the hell that awaited you at the hands of my father. I would've been doing you a favor. I love you enough to kill you in order to save you. I couldn't let that happen to you. If killing you was the only way to protect you, I would've done it, even if it would've broken my heart.”
“You’re sick,” I whispered.
“First and foremost, I’m a villain. A monster. I never expected a happy ending for my life. I doubt I'll get it. Knowing you would've been free from pain and torture would've been the happiest of endings. Anything else would've gutted me. So yes, maybe I am sick, but it’s a sickness that only wants you to not suffer.”
“Yet you made me marry you.”
He chuckled humorlessly. “Like I said, Levin didn’t listen. It was marry me or die in his mind. He chose your life.”
“Are you happy with his choice?”
Dom licked his lips before closing in and placing a tender kiss on the corner of my mouth. “You, mia regina, are a dream come true to me. Yes. I will never regret vowing myself to you. Ever.”
My body trembled beneath him. Damn him for his words and the look in his green eyes.
But really, damn me for feeling the same.
Maybe I was a monster too.
