The other was a black sweater, wet with rain, which had almost covered it.

The rain must have obscured any footprints or tire tracks, because all she could see was leafy mud, but at least they had the item they’d been searching for.

May stared at it in disbelief.

Her theory had worked! She hadn’t actually had much faith in it by the end and had been on the point of calling it quits. Now, she felt absolutely stunned that her intuition had been correct.

"We found it!"  Owen breathed, his face alight with triumph.

"We need to take this straight to forensics and get it dusted for prints," May said.

This was hugely encouraging. In a couple more hours, they might know more about Savannah’s interactions on the last day of her life, and also know who Kyle was, and where he lived.
