When We Dance
He even flashes a knowing smile in my direction, and that irks me. It has nothing to do with their discussion, and I turn my back to him and the table, finally facing the terrace, the ocean, and Kai Walker.
A server fills my glass, and that makes things even better. I can hide behind my drink while trying to understand what’s going on with him.
Shouldn’t he be here with the rest of the people? I know he likes solitude. But reveling in it here makes no sense.
No one pays attention to him other than me.
Is that for me? Is his new attitude relaying a secret message? Does he want to say something to me without using words?
No. He is not upset.
The way he looked at me at the table as if he wanted to spread my legs open and give me an orgasm with his lips and tongue said otherwise.
Hmm… That moment was the highlight of my evening here.
Maybe it is a message for me. A secret move? Part of the game? A way to lure me to him?
So many silly thoughts.
Nah… It can’t have to do with me.
He’s just strange. They all are. Although… I look at the group of people talking business near me.
Look at them.
Francisco and Alejandro… All perked up. They’re no longer broody and quiet, driving me crazy with their cryptic words.
Is it me?
Aw.
Am I a bore? Suddenly?
I swallow hard, no longer in the mood to drink wine. I toss the glass on the table and shoot them another glance.
I catch a glimpse of their profiles. Chests pumped out, hands in their pockets, looking stunning. Alejandro rocks a black-on-black set. Fitted shirt and tailored pants highlighting his sexy bod.
His eyes fill with light from his smile, and it dawns on me how handsome he is. The memory of that evening when I got flowers from him comes to mind, and my chest hurts.
The pain is real. I feel regretful too. Those moments felt so real. Like the moments I’ve had with Francisco. And those I’ve had with Kai.
But Kai is smoother than them. And I got used to him.
He gives me perfect moments that could make me lose my head over him and then retreats. He’s trained me how to enjoy the good parts without getting broken over the bad ones.
And it’s been working so far.
But them… Not so much. They haven’t perfected a system. And I’m still learning their dynamic. Francisco is a huge surprise.
The hot man who swooped me up and landed me on my back with my legs open is not with me this evening. Not here, I mean.
And Alejandro?
He mirrors my moves. Although he’s always been reserved. Seemingly, he’s in the learning phase with me as well.
He wasn’t very direct with me that first evening at the hotel in New York, as if he wasn’t sure whether it was the right thing to do. Or the right moment.
He met with Kai that night… Yeah, yeah… And all that reasoning behind it. I’m not buying it. Where is a will… And all that. He wasn’t interested in finding a way.
