I look at him.

“How do you know?”

“She’s nowhere to be found,” Alejandro says.

“Are you looking for someone?”

The woman’s voice makes me spin around.

Eliza struts to us, holding a drink in her hand.

“Uh… Yeah, I do.”

“Is it the woman I’ve met this evening?” she asks.

“Have you seen her?” I toss at her directly.

She nods.

“She left shortly after I talked to you.”

“How do you know?”

“I was outside, talking on the phone. She slipped into a limo and pulled away.”

“Okay. Thanks.”

“You’re welcome.”

She gives me a cute smile and saunters away.

“What were you two talking about?” Alejandro asks.

“Long story. Let’s go. She must’ve gone back to the hotel.”

“She said she’d go there,” Francisco reminds me.

“Mm-hmm. She did. It’s just that I didn’t believe her.”

“Bad judgment, Walker,” Alejandro comments.

“I’m not going to argue with you right now. Let’s get her before she does something stupid.”

I don’t know why I’m saying that. I’m still very much calm about the situation, although growing tension simmers through my blood.

We jump into a limousine, and minutes later, we climb out in front of the hotel. By now, I’m more than tense.

I call her several times. She doesn’t answer. Grappling with an odd feeling, I tell Francisco and Alejandro to wait in front of the hotel and I go inside.

On my way to the concierge desk, I call the driver who has brought her back. The man doesn’t answer.

The concierge clerks didn’t see her. They call her room. No answer.

A muscle ticks in my jaw.

“Do you know where the driver is?”

The man checks some information on his computer screen.
