When We Dance
They will take me down without the slightest regret, and I will end up with nothing.
So yeah… I’m not proud of what I did. But I had to do something.
My reaction to them had left me baffled. I didn’t like that I was so affected by their actions, so I had to do something radical, dramatic. To reset everything.
A conversation would’ve put me in a weak position. It had already happened with Kai. So I needed to position myself differently.
Playing it cool like them would’ve stunk of fake, and sooner or later, they would’ve known.
This is not ideal, and it’s a form of rebellion, the only one I can do right now.
Looking through the back window, I spot them striding to the Cadillac.
The man behind the wheel climbs out while Kai replaces him.
The other two men hop in.
A soft hand lands on my arm.
“That was a cowardly thing to do…” Isla murmurs, only for me to hear.
“I know. But it was the only way.”
Her eyes gleam without asking for more.
