I grab my martini and walk away with Carson still holding on to me. I wish I could look behind me and see the look on her face but I don’t want to give anything away.

“What was that?” Carson asks, leaning into my ear.

“Me being nice and accepting your apology and helping you out. I saw the look on your face.”

“How the hell did you know who she was?”

“It was kind of obvious between Owen’s reaction and your reaction.”

“Oh.”

I look up at him and see the sadness in his eyes. “Hey,” I say as I pull away from him and face him head-on. “Look, I am sorry about those things I said to you at your house that night. “You don’t have to apologize. I was out of line. I should have just answered your questions instead of flipping out.”

I hold out my hand to him. “Truce.”

He smirks at me as he pushes my hand away and wraps his large hand around my waist, pulling me into him. “Truce. But you just said you were my girlfriend, so you are going to need to play the part.”

“What about Owen?”

“I’ll deal with him.”

“You can’t kiss me.”

“Not here.”

A flush hit my chest wondering where this night will lead us.
