Mistress of the Damned
“Let’s go.”
I followed the Captain and his guards down the corridor. This was really happening, I was going to be free. All thanks to Azil and Xagon finding Drayven. We turned down another corridor where there were more cells and I happened to glance inside one and my mouth dropped. Jesye was asleep in the cell, along with about a dozen more of his kind. He looked weak, once again, but he was still alive. He. Was. Still. Alive. I still had time to save him. I knew then that I would not leave the island without Jesye. I would save them all from their terrible fate.
The jail system seemed to be like a labyrinth, as we went down one corridor after another. I was anxious to get out of there, and a little nervous that I would be returning.
We went down a stone staircase that led into the courtyard. At the bottom of the staircase, Kalin stood with my weapon belt and dagger. I quickly slipped it on while meeting his gaze. I smirked at him as I slid the dagger into my sheath on my belt. “See ya later,” I said with a wink. He glared at me as I followed the Captain into the courtyard. I was jacked up, and ready to get into a little fight with the Denon, win the battle, and demand to have my Hirpy friends freed to come with me.
I turned the corner and faced the Denon with a smile on my face. I couldn’t wait to see Drayven. But the smile quickly dropped off my face as I realized the Denon before me was not Drayven.
“Brimstone!”
The creature before me was definitely a Denon, but it was not the one I came to know. I wasn’t sure where they found this creature, but I doubted it was there for me.
I looked around the courtyard to see if Azil and Xagon were there. Maybe they had just convinced a random Denon to show up for my cause. I didn’t see either of them anywhere, and I knew that I was suddenly in trouble. Where the hell were they?
Cowards! They probably left me in another mess that I had no way out of. I swore that if I got out of this Kingdom, I would hunt the both of them down.
I was going to have to fight the Denon, and hope that it didn’t kill me in the process. It had no loyalty towards me, and was on a rampage. My odds were not good.
It was roughly the same size as Drayven, but it was a jet-black color, which made it appear more terrifying. He not only had horns on his head, but his chest was covered in them. He had a tail as long as his body and it had a huge spike on the end. I swallowed hard and made a mental note to watch out for it. I wondered if it detracted to mate, cause otherwise… ouch!
It spotted me immediately and came toward me. The look in its eyes was pure rage. It wasn’t there to save me. It wanted to kill me.
