“Enough for that even,” she said softly. Why shouldn’t she take her happiness with both hands? They had already rescued each other, why stop now?
Conall kissed her again, hard and deep and joyful. “I love you, Percy. I love the little wrinkle you get between your eyes when someone has miscatalogued an artifact, the gasps you make when you’ve discovered something in the dirt. He pulled a ring from his waistcoat pocket. It was a blue scarab beetle sitting on a band of gold. She swallowed hard against happy tears. “I can get you something else!” He hurried to say. “A diamond, or pearls.”
“No, don’t you dare,” she said, slipping it onto her finger. “It’s perfect.” She couldn’t stop looking at it. He understood her. “I’m going to make a terrible marchioness.”
He shrugged. “I don’t care.”
She slid her arms around his neck and pressed against him. “I will absolutely marry you.”
He gathered her closer and smiled against her hair. “Tell the truth, it was the trip to Egypt that did it, wasn’t it?”
