Merciless Hunter (Dark Syndicate 4)
“Pakhan, you know the points I raise are valid. You haven’t found anything in Jude’s files. Keeping the girl is losing its favor, especially when good men die. It’s clear Jude Kuzmin had no qualms with you, and this is going to start a fucking war if you let it.”
“War already began. That fucker was involved in the scheme to take my son.”
“Maybe so, but you don’t have shit to prove it. The longer you wait the worse this will get. The shit tonight was about the girl, not Aleksei. I suggest either you hand over the girl or kill her and dispose of her. The latter would certainly get them off our backs.”
I clamp a hand over my mouth to stifle my gasp.
Oh God… No.
I listen next for Aiden’s response. His response is what matters.
“I will do what I must when the time is right,” he answers in that cold, hard manner that chills my being to the core.
Jesus Christ.
They’re going to kill me.
That’s what’s going to happen.
But didn’t I know that.
Tears spring from my eyes and I carefully stand then back away, going back the way I came.
I can barely see through the darkness, but I find my way back and break down only then.
How foolish of me to drop my guard.
How foolish of me to forget who Aiden is and what he is.
A killer. A cold hard man who threatened to kill me himself.
He said it.
What did I think, that because we’re sleeping together, I meant something to him?
I mean nothing and he doesn’t care.
Whatever I felt when I was with him was nothing, and he felt nothing for me either.
I was just something to pass the time. A pet. And like a pest he’ll get rid of me.
All these days I spent here I was a pig to slaughter.
I gaze out the window looking at the shadows of the trees swaying in the wind.
Doom settles in the pit of my stomach again when I think of escaping because I don’t know how I’ll do it.
I have to get out of here though.
If I don’t try, I’ll die here.
Aiden will kill me.
