opened. Haley saw the shadow of Claire as she crossed the

room, then her heels were visible from where she was

crouched. She didn’t dare take a breath, even though her lungs

were screaming.

Claire pulled out the chair and sat down. She must have

been tired, because she didn’t even notice Haley until Haley

put her hands on her thighs. She grasped hard, pulling Claire

into the desk. She didn’t make a sound past the tiniest of

gasps.

She didn’t try to push back. Had she known Haley was

under there the whole time? Or was it more that Claire was too

trained to give away emotion, and that included surprise? She

hadn’t screamed. She did jerk hard, her muscles rippling under

Haley’s hands, which indicated that she was surprised.

“What are you doing?” Claire asked in a strained voice as

Haley pushed up the hem of her skirt. Luckily, it wasn’t a tight

pencil skirt. It was flowy and light, even if it was black.

Always black. If the color didn’t look so maddeningly good on

Claire, Haley would have informed Claire that color was the

spice of life.

“I want to do this,” Haley whispered. She wanted more than

that. More than her little mouse squeak. She wanted to be

brave. Bold. She wasn’t going to get anywhere if she couldn’t

wrestle back some of that icy control that Claire cloaked

herself in. “Please. Let me taste you.”

Haley felt the hesitation. She felt Claire go rigid, her heels

digging into the floor as her leg muscles tensed. She was going

to push back the chair and leave. She was going to push back

any second. Haley’s fingers tightened around Claire’s thigh

muscles, and holy shit, the woman wasn’t kidding when she
