Daddy's Adorable Assassin (Daddy's Little Deviants)
“Not yet, but soon.”
My stomach churned, and my heart pounded in my chest. Surprises could be good, especially when they came from Hunter, but my experience with Virgil also made me nervous. Having the script flipped on me and becoming the target in the last job had left me less trusting and more watchful of Hunter the harder I fell for him.
“At least a clue,” I begged.
“Hmm, it’s something you’ve never done before.”
I pouted. “But that can be so many things!”
“It sure can.”
He laughed, and I liked how happy he sounded. Sometimes he seemed sad or angry about the way he felt about me, but the last couple of days had been perfect.
“Are you sure it’s safe to be out like this?” I asked, then could have kicked myself for bringing it up.
“We should be. We haven’t had any incidents since the arrests began. Putting those men away for good will rely on your testimony, though, so we can’t take any chances, which is why the FBI will stake out at our house.”
“Okay.”
A hand covered mine, and he squeezed. “I’ll protect you, sweetheart.”
I believed him.
“And you can now remove the blindfold.”
“Finally.”
I yanked down the material and squinted at the light. Ahead of us was a large building with lots of cars parked in front.
“The movies! Oh my god, I get to go to the movies.”
Hunter chuckled as he slowed down to let a couple cross to the steps leading inside.
“I thought you’d like that.”
“I love this. I love this so much.”
He was driving, so I couldn’t hug him. I wrapped my arms around myself instead, my insides lighting up to maximum happiness. He parked the car and had opened my door when I was still fumbling to unlock my seat belt.
“I love you so much!” I threw my arms around him, and he caught me, then lowered me to the ground, but he didn’t let me go.
“Cosmo.”
“I do. I love you.”
“The answer is yes,” he whispered into my hair. “You asked me if I needed you, and the answer is yes.”
He lowered his head and kissed me. “I’ll fight to keep you, Cosmo, if anyone tries to take you away from me. I don’t want to live without you. This is messy and out of control sometimes, but I’d rather love you messy than not at all.”
I squeezed him as hard as I could. “That’s so romantic. We’re having a moment.”
“What?” His laugh sounded unsure.
“I always see them in the movies. I’ve never had a moment with anyone, Daddy, but I’m glad it’s with you.”
He kissed my temple. “Sorry to ruin the moment, but we need to get in. We know how obsessed you are watching every moment of a movie, even the unimportant stuff at the beginning.”
“Yes, let’s.”
