Daddy's Adorable Assassin (Daddy's Little Deviants)
COSMO
Howmuchlonger,Daddy?
I sent the text message from my new phone he’d bought me yesterday and stared at the screen, waiting for a response. I’d had a phone before, but that had been a basic one. Virgil had given it to me so he could check up on me when he had to go away for business. He always wanted to make sure I was still alive with being left alone with Mother. Whenever he was home, I’d had to return the phone to him and only got it back when he had to leave again.
But this phone was something else. According to Hunter, it wasn’t state of the art, but it had so many functions I’d never known a phone would have. All day yesterday and today, I had been glued to the screen, tapping on all the apps. Last night Hunter had confiscated the phone when it was bedtime. We’d made love, but right after he’d fallen asleep, I’d crawled under the covers with the phone, trying to learn all the new features and play games. He’d woken up and had threatened to take it away permanently if I didn’t show more restraint.
But after we had sex again this morning in the shower, he’d handed the phone back to me and told me to be more responsible. A few hours ago, he’d left for the police station, and I texted him every fifteen minutes just to get a text back. He’d video called me once, and it’d been exciting seeing him on the screen and talking to him while he was away. But it’d made me sad too because I hated when he had to work, and I was on my own.
If no one had tried to kidnap me yet, what was the likelihood they would? I had no idea if Virgil had told anyone about me. He’d hidden me at the farmhouse all my life, and I’d only been allowed to accompany him when he started giving me assignments. The first time I saw the city, it’d been so freeing that I’d been willing to do anything he asked just to get him to bring me back.
My phone vibrated, and I hit the Answer button before it even rang. Hunter’s face filled the screen, and I grinned. He was so handsome and all mine.
“Love, I can’t get any work done if you text me every fifteen minutes,” he said.
“I’m sorry. I just miss you.”
“I’ll be home soon, I promise. This will probably take another hour.”
“What exactly are you doing? I thought you were on administrative leave so you could be my hot bodyguard Daddy.”
Hunter burst out laughing. “Is that what I am? Hot bodyguard Daddy, who you bone?”
I nodded, my cheeks heating. We had some fun earlier this morning in the shower. Hunter was so intense when he wasn’t being a responsible, professional cop. My favorite moments were when he relaxed and didn’t worry about how hard he nailed me to the bed or wall. He hadn’t been too rough with me since the first time, but his power always pulsed beneath the biting kisses, the way he pinned down my wrists and grunted like he was physically restraining himself from losing himself in me.
“Can we have more sex when you get home?”
“More sex? You’re insatiable, you know that?”
“But that’s a good thing, right?”
“It is for me, though I worry I’m putting too much pressure on you.”
“If you were, I’d tell you.”
“Would you really, Cosmo?”
“Yes, because I know you’d want to know.”
“Good. I have to go back to my work, but I’ll see you soon. Shall I pick up something for dinner?”
“Um, no. I’m sure we can find something at home to eat. You don’t have to spoil me so much, you know. I know how to do without.”
His eyes softened. “Maybe that’s exactly why you need a bit of spoiling. I’ll see you when I get home later, and remember to stay inside.”
“And not let Agent Ellis past the doorway. I remember.”
“Good boy.”
For some reason, Agent Ellis’s presence ticked him off every time he noticed he was the man on watch duty. Hunter never seemed to have a problem with the other two agents who took shifts with Agent Ellis. He never made me leave the room when they asked to use the bathroom, but when it was Agent Ellis, I had to stay out of sight. Whenever I asked him why Agent Ellis upset him so much, he never responded either. He only seemed to get angrier.
After he hung up, I sent him a barrage of emoji texts, mostly hearts, until he sent back a message that he would take my phone away if I didn’t allow him to work. I snapped a photo of me pouting and sent it to him, but I stopped texting and instead looked up easy recipes for a date night.
Hunter always took care of our meals. Although he indulged me in helping him prepare them, he did most of the work, but he’d been so loving and good to me that I wanted to return the favor.
I checked the fridge. We had chicken breasts, ham, and three different cheeses, which seemed good enough for the chicken parmesan recipe I’d found. As I laid out the ingredients on the counter, I imagined Hunter coming home tired and hungry, thinking he would have to make dinner but walking into a delicious homemade meal.
He would be so pleased with me.
