Of Fae and Hate

“I’ve talked to her,” he says and I don’t miss the red tint to his cheeks.

“You’ve talked to my mom?”

“He’s been shifting into you for a week,” Alik says.

“What?” My eyes widen and I look up at the orange haired giant. I can’t even imagine him shifting into me.

“And what about my voice?” I ask. I don’t know if shifters can change their vocal chords but it seems like a bit of a stretch.

“I gave him a little glamor potion for that, it worked like a charm,” Brynsyn says with a shrug.

I let my head tilt back against the headboard. “And no one noticed that something was off.”

“Clemmsies did, which is why it's great that you’re finally awake. I don’t know how much longer we could have held her off. She was adamant that something was up.”

Well at least someone noticed.

“Why did I die?”

“An abaron attacked you,” Brynsyn says, his voice tight.

“A what?”

“Gods,” Alik shakes his head, his eyes on fire. “How damn clueless did your mother allow you to be in the human world?”

“What?” It seems to be my favorite word right now.

“You should know what an abaron is,” he snaps, “not knowing is ignorance.”

Soskia has gone completely still next to me, her body practically turning into rock. I look over at her, and her face has gone blank.

“What’s wrong with her?” I ask, jerking a thumb at her. I shift closer to her before I realize what I’m doing and when I do, I go completely still.

What the hell?

“She’ll be okay,” Alik says, glancing between the two of us. He folds his arms over his chest, his facial expression going completely blank.

I sigh. I want to get the hell out of here, I don’t want to have to sit up begging for answers to questions that should be easily answered.

If I’ve been dead for a week then I should at least be given the curtosuey to ask all the questions I want.

Wait.

“If I’ve been dead, why in the hell am I here?” I ask, looking around the mostly bare bedroom. “And where is here?”

“My cabin,” Alik says. “And Brynsyn insisted that you were going to wake up, so we were waiting you out.”

Waiting me out?

My hands ball into fists as rage sweeps through me, feuling my lack of energy. “You covered up my death?” I shriek, my voice a couple of pitches too high.

Brynsyn leans away as if I personally attacked him and his gaze moves to Alik as if to say can you believe this?

The look throws him right onto my shit list with the rest of the assholes in this room.

“Do you realise how fucked up that is?” I continue and this time when I get to my feet, I’m steady. I march right up to Brynsyn, narrowing my eyes at him. I can’t believe that he was the one who thought it’d be a good idea to cover everything up, but then again I should know better. He’s the only one who hasn’t been an ass to me, but he hasn’t appeared to be exactly stable.

I clench my jaw, before shaking my head. “I’m out of here!” I stomp toward the bedroom door. My adrenaline is fueling me but honestly I can still feel the weakness to my body that wants me to sit down instead of storming off in anger.
