CHAPTER NINETEEN: BRYNSYN

Iattracttrouble.

I can’t come up with any other reason for why in the hell this could possibly be happening to me.

Alik and I had just managed to get Neryssa back to his cabin when her body had gone from limp to thrashing around wildly. I’d nearly dropped her.

By the time we made it to the guest room, her body was basically convulsing.

And then she’d flipped the fuck out.

Her eyes had gone completely black, black veins running up and down the side of her neck. She’d managed to throw anything she could find at us before we finally managed to get her up against the wall and fuck if she isn’t strong as hell becsause it takes a lot for us to keep her down.

When black tendrils flow from her mouth, I know we’re fucked.

I’d thought the abaron had infected her, it’d been pretty clear, but I hadn’t known how that would maifest in her. But after the way the potion reacted to her today and now the complete shift I have no doubt that she’s turning into an abaron.

“What are you doing?” Alik shouts as I release Neryssa.

I don’t answer him as I move in front of her. I press my body firmly against hers and allow the black tendrils to slam into my face.

I open my mouth, inhaling the fumes. They’re bitter, but the taste is familiar. Alik is shouting at me even louder now, but I ignore him, absorbing the poison.

A shiver racks my body and already I can feel my heart racing with adrenaline. I close my eyes, continuing to pull it in. I can feel the moment that the poison starts to shift, become less potent and the abundance going down. I lean in close until my lips are right on top of Neryssa’s. My eyes are still closed but I can feel from the way she’s holding her lips that the poison isn’t screaming out of her anymore. Instead, I have to coax the rest from between her lips, sipping the last of the poison until it’s completely gone.

I open my eyes, finding purple ones staring back at me. The darkness is gone.

Neryssa’s jaw is lax and her eyes are muddied with confusion.

I swallow, taking a step away from her. Already, the energy is moving through my body, wiring me up. My hand starts to shake but I breathe through the initial high of the feed.

I’ve learned how to master it perfectly over the last few years, practicing on Fox more frequently than not.

His fuck up had been a blessing in disguise for me.

I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have been able to make it through without accidentally killing a couple of my peers if I hadn’t had his energy to take the edge off.

“I don’t know what the fuck just happened, but someone’s going to have to start talking or I don’t give a fuck, I’m grabbing Sprouse,” Alik snaps out.

“In a moment,” I grunt out before inspecting Nerys. We’d slid Alik’s shirt on her after I’d had to discard her jeans because of the potion. I’d been careful not to touch the poison directly.

Things would have gone from bad to worse.

Gently I lift Neyrssa’s hand, grimacing when I see it. To say that the potion burned her skin would be an understatement, it’d melted it right off.

I’m surprised she hadn’t passed out before I even started applying the potion to stop the reaction from the one that’d been spilled on her.

And her knee…

I can feel how weightless her body has gone and now that there isn’t an entirely different being taking over her body, I know that she’s not going to actually be able to stand on her own.

“Fuck, we’re going to have to get her a real potion to heal that,” I say, looking down at her knee. It's just barely covered by Alik’s shirt, but I won’t be forgetting how it looked anytime soon.

I could easily make a potion strong enough to heal up the damage, however I don’t actually have any of the ingredients. “Going to have to break into the lab.” I’ll have to be careful because if Misael or Misslyn find out that I touched any of their precious roots they’ll blow a gasket.

But we can’t take her to the infirmary and a regular healing spell won’t work to reverse the damage from this type of potion.

I don’t think that Neryssa has the same healing abilities that most fae would have, not that healing something like this would work without any aided help anyway, so it's even more important to get the potion on her quickly.
