Something So Irresistible (Something So 3)
I smile up at him as he sets down the tray and then goes back to get another two and he finally sits down on the bed and the robe opens. “How many things did you order?” I ask him as he pours two cups of coffee.
“I pretty much ordered everything that they had.” He opens the lid to the five covered plates, showing me eggs, pancakes, waffles, French toast, and oatmeal, as well as yogurt with fresh berries.
“This is the best ever,” I say, sipping the coffee that he handed me and leaning over to kiss him. The coffee tastes on his lips also. “So,” I start saying as I grab a fork and cut a piece of pancake. “Want to stay in Vegas for the break?” I look at him as he is eating the scrambled eggs and he shrugs his shoulders.
“Whatever you want, angel,” he says. “Let me know. I’ll make the reservations.”
“You know reservations is my thing, right?” I look at him and smile. “Where do you want to stay? I’ll make the reservations.” I take a bite of the waffle. “The pancakes are way better.”
“Angel, you want to stay in Vegas, I’ll handle it,” he says. “End of story.”
“You know I’m a planner. I need to know where we are going, what we are going to be doing. I can make reservations for some shows. I can talk to the concierge and see what they sugges—”
He puts his hand on my lips. “Let’s wing it.”
I put my eyebrows together. “Max, I don’t wing it.” I scratch my neck. “Just the thought is giving me hives.”
“Allison, it’ll be fine, like a surprise,” he says as he smiles, then looks up at my face. “It’s going to fine. Breathe, angel.”
I roll my eyes at him as he finishes eating and we start getting dressed to go to the rink. I dress in my warm clothes since the game is outside today. “I don’t know how people are going to sit outside with this cold and watch the game,” I say as I tie my big boots.
“Now give me a kiss good luck,” he says as I stand up and suddenly feel like the Michelin man.
I go on my tippy toes. “Love you,” I say as I kiss him. “Break a leg, love.”
Chapter Twenty-Eight
Max
The fucking cold seeps into my lungs. “Remind me never to do this again,” I say to the line as I sit down. I am wearing my equipment, which is soaked with sweat but when you sit down it gets almost stiff.
“Stop fucking complaining,” Matthew says from beside Phil. “You’re having the game of your life. One more and it’s a hat trick in front of fifty-seven thousand maniacs.”
I don’t argue with him there. I came on the ice with a mission to show her that I’m worth that chance.
“Stone,” the coach calls from behind us, letting us know it’s our turn for our line. I jump over the boards as soon as the winger that I’m replacing comes to the bench and skate to my side as Luka stops a stop and covers up the rebound. We get to the side of him to start his face-off. I’m deep in the corner as I crouch down and wait for the puck to drop. Matthew clips the puck, but it shoots to the other player beside me, but my stick intercepts it as I shoot it behind the net for Nico, the defenseman, who takes it as the Buffalo players skate off for a line change. He passes the puck to Phil, who skates it down the ice while Matthew skates down the middle. He passes the puck to Matthew, who takes it on his stick by passing the guy who is supposed to be watching him by going around him. I get to the blue line before him, stopping to wait till he is in the zone before I skate in. Once his skate is over the line I skate in with him as he passes the puck back to Phil as Matthew stands in front of the goalie. I stay right next to the goalie, but no one is looking at me as they try to knock Matthew out of the way for the goalie, who is on the left hand side. Phil sees this and passes the puck to the right, giving me the perfect opportunity to tap it into the empty net, which is exactly what I do. When I see it’s in I skate to the corner and jump on the glass, as winter caps are thrown on the ice. Phil and Matthew come to me as Nico finally gets to us and jumps on us screaming as Ryan, the other defenseman, meets us at the blue line. We skate back to the bench as we high five everyone. We don’t even have time to touch the puck again when the horn rings and we end the game with us winning 4-1.
