He closed his eyes and cursed. “Okay, that didn’t come out right and sounded so unromantic. My mother would probably smack me if she ever heard me say I unloaded my seed in a woman. I just meant—”

“Truitt.”

“Yeah?” he asked, his eyes meeting mine.

“Maybe you should stop talking now.”

With a quick nod, he replied, “Okay. I will. Right now.”

“Should we call it a night?” I asked, hating that our evening might end on a sour note like this.

“Do you want to?”

I chewed on my lip. “Well, you did promise to do naughty things to me with your mouth again.”

He smiled, and I couldn’t help the bubble of excitement that rose up in my chest.

“And I am a man of my word.”

Truitt led me back into the bedroom and spent the rest of the night showing me all kinds of wonderful, naughty things he could do with his mouth and his hands. When I couldn’t take anymore, I dropped onto the bed and sighed as I felt myself drift into euphoria with Truitt wrapping his arms around me and pulling me to him.

“Five minutes. I’m going to rest my eyes for five minutes,” I whispered as I drifted off to sleep.

Truitt

“TWUITT?”

“Mmm?”

“Twuitt, I had a baw dweam.”

I stretched out my arms and let out a groan. “A bad dream?” I said as a yawn slipped out.

“Ah huh. Wus did, too, cause he was scared.”

I smiled. I didn’t want to wake up and ruin the dream I was clearly having.

“Can I sweep with you and Mommy?”

That made me open my eyes with a start. Standing right at eye level was a little blue-eyed, curly-brown-haired girl clutching a white rabbit. Next to her was Rus, his tongue out as he stood there and bounced his gaze from me to Liliana.

“Liliana?” I asked, squeezing my eyes shut and then opening them as I prayed this was all a dream.

When my eyes met hers again, she smiled. “Twuitt!”

Oh. Shit.

I looked over my shoulder and saw Saryn sleeping like a beautiful queen who had been given a dose of drugs that caused her to drift into a hard slumber. Why hadn’t she heard Liliana talking? Weren’t moms supposed to have some sort of super-hearing or some shit like that?

Facing Liliana again, I quickly took in the situation. There was no way she was getting up into this bed. For one, I was butt-ass naked. Two, I was completely naked. Three, I was naked.

“Um, how about I take you back up to your room with Rus, and we read another book?”

Even in the dark I could see her eyes light up. “Okay!” she said, bouncing up and down on her toes.

Okay, how do I get out of bed when I’m naked? I glanced around and saw a robe draped over the chair in the corner.

“Sweetheart, will you hand me that robe?” I asked as I pointed to it. Rus looked in the direction I was pointing, and then back at me. If I hadn’t known any better, I would swear the bastard was smiling.

“This isn’t funny!” I snapped at him.

Liliana rushed over and got the robe, and then rushed back to hand it to me.

“Turn around and close your eyes for me, okay?”

With a nod, she did as I asked. I slipped out of bed and put the robe on so fast I was positive I broke some world record. I turned and looked at Saryn. She looked so peaceful sleeping, and if I woke her up and she knew Liliana had walked in on us in bed together, she would freak out.

I took Liliana’s hand and very quietly walked us out of the bedroom. Once I shut the door, I scooped her up and bounded up the steps with Rus on my heels.

Liliana giggled and wrapped her arms tightly around my neck. “I wuv you, Twuitt.”

My God. There was no way my heart could take any more tonight. None. If I hadn’t already given this little girl my heart, she fully owned it now.

After tucking her back into bed, I picked out another book and strained to read it by the nightlight in her room. It didn’t take long before she drifted back to sleep, her head on my arm and her little hand clasping mine. I glanced at Rus who was sitting next to the bed, looking at me with pleading eyes.

“You woke her up, didn’t you?”

He whined and looked down.

“You couldn’t have come and just woken me up, could you?”

The sound of his tail thumping the floor caused me to roll my eyes.

After carefully slipping out of Liliana’s bed, I motioned for Rus to follow me back downstairs. He ran to the front door and waited.

“You’re gonna have to learn to hold your pee, buddy, if you want to spend the night here.”

The moment I opened the door, Rus caught sight of a cat and took off running at full speed, barking. I had no idea what in the hell time it was, but there wasn’t a light on at Evie and Will’s house, which led me to believe it was late.
