Billionaire's Secret Baby
Sitting down with my sandwich I decided I would call Alice. She and I had been hanging out a lot more lately. She was fun to talk to, especially about my love life even if she did have way too much advice and got mad if I tried to refute said advice.
When she answered I told her everything that had happened, although I skipped the play by play of our lovemaking.
“Oh, wow! That’s awesome. I didn’t know if you would go through with it, but that’s fantastic. So, how was it?”
I laughed. “It was great. It was amazing, actually. I… I can’t believe it finally happened.”
“That’s awesome. I need to find a man like that,” she said.
“You aren’t going out with what’s his name?”
“Chad? No, that’s over. He dumped me, the creep.”
“Why?”
“He is dating Becky Gifford, that’s why. I need to poison the bitch or something.”
I laughed. “Don’t do anything rash. That’s his problem then if he can’t realize how amazing you are.”
“Thanks. So, what happens next for you two?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, is it officially a thing or are you just having fun?”
“I don’t know. We’ve only spent one night together. Right now, we are really just trying to feel each other out and try to see where we belong, if we are compatible enough to make this work and so forth. I’m not sure what we are right now. But I do know it feels really right.”
“That’s fantastic. But I do think you should establish a clearer direction of where you are going and what is happening. Isn’t it weird otherwise?”
“No. I don’t think so. I’m happy with just the way things are. They just started up. There is no reason to establish anything like that. We don’t even know if it should go anywhere. All we did establish is that whatever happens, it won’t affect our working relationship because that would affect Jack.”
“I see. I guess that is the best way.”
“Right,” I said.
“I’m glad you decided to call to give me the rundown on everything. That was very thoughtful of you.”
“Well, I need someone to talk about this with. It’s exciting, but it’s also a bit nerve racking. I’ve asked myself all those same questions a million times but I’ve yet to really give myself any good answers. You’ve been a big help.”
“I have? I just riff on things and make sarcastic comments for the most part.”
“Well, that is helping,” I said.
She laughed. “Well, glad to be of service. Hey, when do I get to meet this guy?”
“I’m not sure,” I said. “Maybe soon. But right now, we are just playing it by ear.”
“Ok, bitch, be that way,” she teased.
“I will, bitch,” I replied. We both shared a laugh. “I’ll talk to you later. I got to run soon.”
“Later.”
I finished my lunch and then went back to working on the demo. Soon, it was time to pick up Jack from school. I loved that little boy. He was such a sweet, ray of sunshine. And he had taken a strong liking to me. I was happy to fill that void left by his mother. He still saw her once a month, but from what I’d gleaned from Mason he was trying to get that stopped since Tiffany was getting involved with some unsavory people. I could definitely understand that.
I picked Jack up from school and he was a ball of energy. He was one of the most energetic kids I’d ever met. At one point he’d been tested for ADHD but had not been diagnosed with that. According to what Mason had told me, Jack’s child psychologist suggested that he was just very uneasy because of the fact that his mother was not around all the time. He had a subconscious fear of losing everyone who was important to him.
I tried to sympathize with him. I knew it had to be tough and so far, he’d done remarkably well. When we got back to Mason’s house, I fixed Jack a sandwich and then we played with his toy trucks and watched some movies on Disney. I fixed him some dinner, got him showered, and put him to bed. He was sad that Mason wasn’t home to tuck him in, but the little guy was so tired that he was out five minutes after I closed his door, so the sadness didn’t last too long.
I went back downstairs and fixed a pot of tea while I continued reading. I loved the quiet evening hours. It was always such a pleasure to sit down with a nice beverage and a good book in the evenings instead of serving a bunch of drunks and laughing at their idiotic jokes hoping to get some good tips and keep them in good enough moods that no fights would break out.
I was just getting into the book when Mason came home. I instantly lost interest in the book and set it down on the side table. He looked amazing as he always did. He was so tall and athletic looking, his body appearing to be chiseled out of some type of stone beneath his finely tailored suits. Damn, that was one sweet specimen of a man. I’d been thinking about this moment all day long. And now it was here.
