It had been hard, but nothing was harder than avoiding him. I couldn’t do it anymore. I wanted to be as close to him as I could be for as long as I could be.

He breathed steadily, his warm breath hitting my ear and sending chills down my body, and I realized what a miracle it had been that I hadn’t lost him. Tears filled my eyes, and I thanked God that everything was all right and that stupid snake bite hadn’t been the end of us. What a cruel thing for fate to bring us back together only to have it end with a tragedy. I decided right then and there that even if it didn’t last, I was going to take each moment and cherish it with him. If this was all a fling, I’d just have to make the most of it and deal with the aftermath as it came.

I curled up against him, entwining my legs with his, and then I closed my eyes and listened to him breathing. It was the best sound in the world. Before I knew it, it lulled me to sleep.

The next morning, a loud noise outside of the tent startled me awake. The rest of the cast and crew were headed to the jungle, and someone had dropped something, making a loud crashing noise.

“Way to go,” Ben’s voice said above the crowd. “Let’s see if we can’t fuck up all of our equipment. I know I want to spend another ten grand on sound.”

“It’s fine,” Ally called. She was quite clumsy. “It was just the stand.”

Jake must have heard them too because he rolled away from me a bit as if listening. “I just realized I have the day off,” he said with a proud tone. Then he rolled back close to me, pushing his erection into my side. “I wonder how we should spend the day.”

“We?” I asked. He wanted me here with him? “I’m pretty sure I’ll be needed on set. Especially after yesterday.” I was surprised that Tess hadn’t come to find me.

“No, they don’t need you as much as I do,” he said. He kissed me, and I rolled over to face him, giving him much better access.

When he pulled away, I looked into his eyes. He smiled at me, and I realized I didn’t want to go anywhere. “Maybe I deserve the day off too.”

“That’s just what I wanted to hear. You’re so good to me.” He slipped his hand down between my legs and rubbed me, causing my body to awaken with need.

I slipped my hand down under the covers between us and gripped his sex, stroking his length as he grew even harder in my hands. I pushed him back against the cot and moved to straddle his hips. Then I situated myself above his hard cock and slowly lowered, closing my eyes to enjoy the pleasure as I took in every delicious inch of him.

“I loved waking up with you,” he said. “And this makes it so perfect.”

I had longed for the type of relationship where we could fall asleep in each other’s arms and wake up for morning sex, but never did I think I’d have the opportunity.

He sat up, bringing me closer, and he got up and put me on my back. Then he moved over me, and I found myself right where I’d been the night before, with him buried deep inside of me and never wanting it to end.

But a while later, it had to end, bringing me back down to reality. I had been making the most of my time with him, and it wasn’t until after that I found myself having second thoughts about what I was doing.

I was setting myself up to fail. Setting myself up for a huge loss and a whole lot of heartache.

My stomach rumbled so loudly, we both heard it. “I should go get us something to eat.”

“I guess we’ve both worked up an appetite,” he said with a chuckle as his stomach rumbled too.

It felt like ages since I’d eaten anything. “I haven’t had anything since breakfast yesterday.”

He thought a moment. “Damn, it’s been longer for me if you don’t count the meds and antivenin.”

“I’ll get you something.” I turned over, but he shook his head.

“Don’t move,” he said. “I know what to do.” He got up and put on his pants. “I’ll be right back.”

As he left, I lay there, looking up at the tent ceiling. I really should have gone and seen if Ben needed anything or at least check on Tess, but I couldn’t just bail, and I was starving. Make the most of it, Kate. It will all be gone and just another memory soon enough.

I decided to sit up and get dressed, and by the time I put on my panties and shirt, he returned.
