At first, I ignored it, but he called right back. I didn’t have a valid excuse not to answer the phone. I picked up.
“Hey,” he greeted. “The meeting’s over. I should be there soon with a surprise.”
“Um, great, but I have to leave.”
“What? Why? Where?”
“My sister is sick, and I have to go to her,” I lied. “The whole family is just falling apart.”
“Oh, God. The virus?”
“Um, yep,” I continued to lie.
“If you wait, I can go with—”
“No, that’s too dangerous. Besides, it’s only family,” I insisted. “Should only be a few days, then I can come back and work.”
“Work, who cares about work now? We—”
“Jack, I have to go. Goodbye.”
“Okay. Bye,” he said, sounding confused.
I hung up on him before he could question me any further. I needed to process and Jack, Well, he made his own bed. If he was confused because of it, so be it. It wasn’t my problem.
Chapter Nineteen – Jack
Well, this sucks. On the night of a great victory and now Sandra is gone. This would’ve been so perfect. She really should be here to share in the win.
The house seemed kind of lonely without her. She had a way of filling up a room with her presence. Even when I was moping around, she made the house feel like it was full of life.
I followed up with some calls, but Sandra seemed to have her phone off. Leaving a message of support, I wondered why her phone would be turned off completely. Could it be that her sister died? That would be terrible.
But it was the only explanation I could think of because the next day, she didn’t turn her phone back on. I started searching the Internet to see if I could find out the name and address of her sister. Maybe I could at least get some information if she had passed on. I just didn’t understand why Sandra would completely cut me off, that was until Kitty knocked on the door.
When I heard the knock, I thought it was Sandra. I rushed to the door to open it.
“Kitty?” I said in shock.
“Hey handsome, how’s it hanging?” she said flippantly, walking into the house and patting me on the ass as she did so. “Missed you.”
“What are you doing here?” I asked as Kitty got on my couch and struck a pose.
“Why am I here? What a question!” she laughed. “I’m stuck in quarantine, and I’m bored as shit. Figured you would be too. Is there anything I can get you, sir?”
“This is kind of a bad time, Kitty,” I said, trying to think of an excuse that wouldn’t hurt her feelings.
“Look, I told you before, sir. I don’t mind sharing. You want to bring that pretty young thing in the bedroom and tie us both up? I’m down. She seems kind of uptight. Did you break her in yet?”
“You talked to Sandra?”
“Sandra. Right. Couldn’t remember the name. Cute. Totally your type.”
“More than my type,” I said, bristling at the comment.
“Hey-hey-hey, relax, I’m not the jealous type,” she laughed. “The more, the merrier, I say. Although I would prefer to break you in myself once. Just to break the ice. I’m not wearing underwear, as per your request, sir.”
“Things of have changed, Kitty,” I said, turning away. “I’m not, I’m not the same person.”
“What? Okay, what’s that mean?”
“I think I’m in love with Sandra.”
Kitty laughed uproariously. “C’mon, Jack,” she said sarcastically. “This isn’t high school. Like I said, I think she’s cute. You wanna rock a three-way, I got no problem with that. You got extra handcuffs, right?”
“You’re not hearing me,” I said.
Kitty’s offer would’ve been tempting a year ago. But now, with Sandra in my life, I didn’t want anyone else but her. And I was sure Sandra would not go for a three-way arrangement. Otherwise, she would’ve stayed. Her sister being sick was obviously some kind of ruse to get out of here.
“You gotta go, Kitty,” I insisted. “For good this time. You can’t come back.”
“What? Seriously?” she said incredulously. “I don’t get you, Jack. I’m a free lunch here.”
“Nothing’s for free,” I retorted. “I’m sorry. It’s over between us.”
“So, you’re not even interested in one last bang? For old time’s sake?”
“I can’t, Kitty,” I said solemnly. “Please, just go.”
Kitty sighed and got up from the couch. She was not the kind of woman who usually got turned on.
“Well, now I’m really sorry I didn’t get to have sex with Sandra,” she said. “Her pussy must be made of gold.”
“You know,” I said as I held the door for her. “It’s not personal. I really am in love.”
“I can see that,” said Kitty. “And I’m actually kind of jealous. Have a good life, Jack.”
“You too.”
The moment I shut the door, I immediately dialed Sandra. I left her a very detailed message about my past relationship with Kitty. I was a different person back then, and Kitty, while extraordinarily good in bed, was kind of a drag to be around. As sexual as I was, her lust knew no bounds. I was quite sure she’d probably find someone to have sex with before the hour was up.
