Both Ethel’s husbands were very nice-looking gentlemen.
Patrick smiled. “Nice to meet you, young lady.”
“Welcome to our town, Miss Taylor.”
She shook their hands. “Please call me Jena.”
“My men might be from the Emerald Isle but I’m from Missouri.”
“You married them, Ethel,” Gretchen winked. “That makes you Irish in my book.”
“I know,” she shot back. It was clear these two women were fond of each other. Ethel handed Jena another rose. “This is for you.”
She took the pink flower. “Thank you. This is beautiful. I’m so happy to meet you. This is quite the town.”
“What do you think of our dragon statues in the park?” Patrick asked.
“Don’t you dare start with your stories.” Ethel kissed him. “This is a party. Give the girl a chance to enjoy herself before you scare her off with your imaginary dragons.”
“They are hardly imaginary, sweetheart.”
“Listen to our wife, Patrick. There are other people who want to meet Jena,” Sam said.
Patrick leaned forward. “Another time. You look like someone with an open mind to me.”
“I can’t wait to hear all about it,” she told him. The three of them were adorable. She wondered how long they’d been together.
Wearing sunglasses, Dylan Strange came up with Erica and Cameron.
Erica handed her a red rose. “I’m so glad to see you again. Dylan keeps going on and on about how brave you were in Odessa.”
“That’s high praise from my brother,” Cameron added. “He rarely gives compliments. Told me and our lovely bride that you were also quite the driver, too.”
“Red is my favorite color.” She placed the stem into the vase with the other two. “Thank you.”
Erica leaned in and whispered. “I know this is a little overwhelming, but you’ll come to love our town. I promise.”
“I’m already crazy about it,” she confessed.
“Crazy is good in Destiny,” Cam said with a laugh.
As the Stranges stepped aside, Jena saw a line had formed behind them. She looked at Matt and Sean, who remained on either side of her. This felt almost like a receiving line at a wedding, though she’d never been a bride herself. God, was there any place on earth like this place? She doubted there was.
Sheriff Jason Wolfe stepped up with two other men she didn’t recognize. She’d seen him at the boutique that Megan had taken her to earlier that day, but tonight he was not in uniform. The man was quite handsome, as were the duo next to him.
Jason handed her a peach-colored rose. “Welcome, Jena. These are my two brothers, Mitchell and Lucas.”
“Thank you for the rose. I’m so glad to meet you.” She was surprised that they didn’t have a woman with them.
As Jason, Mitchell, and Lucas moved aside, Matt leaned in. “Those three are so lovesick for Phoebe Blue. She’s the one in the red dress about three families back in line.”
“As good looking as the three Wolfe brothers are, I’m surprised the woman isn’t with them.”
“We don’t know the whole story,” Sean whispered, “but apparently it has something to do with Jason sending her brother Shane to prison a few years back.”
“That would be a tough hurdle to get over.” She noticed that Phoebe was sneaking peeks at the Wolfe brothers. “I think she might be a little lovesick, too.”
More people handed her flowers until Gretchen had to bring her another vase. There had to be at least fifty roses she’d been given already. What a welcome. Everyone in Destiny was so sweet and kind to her.
