Back to You (Forever Yours 1) - Page 3

“Let’s go!” Sadie calls out, shaking me from my fantasy. “Garrett is heading down to the car now.”

I rush down the stairs with Sadie, two at a time, and we both dive into the back seat of the car. I would love to be up front with my boyfriend, but I’m also more than happy to be here with my best friend. Garrett turns up the radio as he drives and we sing along at the top of our lungs, giddy as hell. Every so often, I catch Garrett’s eyes in the rear-view mirror. He’s looking at me with pure desire, and I can tell that he wants the same things as me too which has my hormones running amok.

Even though the situation isn’t ideal, I still feel like the luckiest woman alive. I have the perfect man. He is gorgeous, and I know that he could have any woman that he wants, but he seems to want me and I’m sure as hell not going to complain. He doesn’t let me feel jealous either, not of anyone or least of all, the girls that he goes to college with. He always reminds me that he chooses me…

The noise catches us first, its the sort of volume that can only come from a sound system in a household so wealthy that no one will dare complain of the volume, and the bubbles in my belly fizzle with excitement. As we walk through the crowd, some people drinking, some dancing but everyone is having a great time. Not a care in the world. I know the Millers farm well, and with the amount of people here, it will be easy for Garrett and I to sneak off to the barn or an extra room without being noticed.

I know it’s too early to run off right away; plus, we will want to have some drinks and dance first. I don’t want Sadie to get suspicious, so when the moment is right, we will sneak away, and our lives will change forever. I’m not worried about the distance when it comes to Garrett and I. Maybe because we won’t be too far apart, or maybe because we’ve already talked about “our forever”. One thing I know is, after tonight, we will be just be beginning our happily ever after.

Chapter 2 – Garrett

“You sure you don’t want another beer?” Benny yells to me over the music.

I smile and shake my head. “Designated driver. Got to be sensible, you know? Can’t get caught drinking.”

Benny pulls a face as if this pisses him off, but it doesn’t bother me at all. I don’t need to drink to have a good time, I haven’t ever been that kind of person, and even less so tonight. This isn’t my graduation party after all, I already had that. I am here for my sister, Sadie, and my secret girlfriend, Jill. Who also secretly, is the love of my life.

Maybe I am too young to consider this “that kind” love. A lot of people think that. These are supposed to be the best years of my life as a bachelor, busy spent chasing tail and hooking up with anyone I want, but that’s not me. I already know that I’m in love with Jill, I have been for as long as I can remember, so now that she’s finally mine, I won’t do anything to screw that up.

Sure, it isn’t the easiest because we have to keep us a secret for now. I’ll be honest about that. I would much rather Sadie just know, but Jill is scared of how her best friend will feel, and I’m sure her best friend won’t be pleased about me keeping this secret from her either. It’ll probably be alright once she gets used to it, but the fall out will be hard. Just thinking about the drama of the reveal makes my head hurt. Nope, I have to mentally prepare for that talk.

“So, college life treating you well?” Benny asks. “I bet the chicks are hot, aren’t they? That’s what I’m excited about. We’ve grown up in a small town with all the same girls our whole lives. I can’t keep hooking up with my friends’ past flings, it’s time to go to Florida for fresh meat, you know?”

“I didn’t even look at Florida,” I laugh, not that I ever wanted to go that far away. “But yeah, it’s new people, different girls, so you are bound to have a good time. You were always pretty lucky in that department here…”

In truth, I don’t even notice the girls at college. None of them can compare to Jill. That’s why I’m home when I don’t have class, on the off chance that I might get to sneak some time, or a kiss with her. It’s embarrassing really, how much of a sap I have become for her, but I don’t care. I’m head over heels in love and it feels wonderful.
