Eyeing her with the most devious glare I can muster, I open my mouth, and she slips in two pills. I nip at her fingertips, and she jerks her hand to her chest. Smiling at her, I put them under my tongue, and she turns back to the cart without asking to look in my mouth. Either she trusts me or what she doesn’t know doesn’t hurt her.

“Oh, you have mail today.” Turning back to me, she holds out a black envelope.

“I’m not into the whole pen pal thing,” I sneer, then I see my parents’ address. Why the hell they wrote me instead of calling or coming to see me, I don’t fucking know. I watch Hailey leave out the corner of my eye and spit the pills that were near dissolving into my hand.

Gripping them in my palm, I read the handwritten letter.

I didn’t know how to say this to you on the phone or in person, so a letter is what I resorted to, son.

I have cancer. I don’t have long, and I don’t want anyone to feel sorry for me. I’ve lived a good life, and now, it’s time for me to rest. I want you to have the gavel and take over the club, but I need to know your heart is in it. When you get out of that hellhole, complete these three tasks, and the gavel is yours.

Dad.

My eyes scan farther down the paper.

Protect your brothers at all costs.

Take down the Titans and their gun running operation.

Protect the Seven Knights from Dameaon.

Uncle Damian. My father’s brother. He lives just on the other side of the Death Valley in Arizona and runs the Titan MC Arizona chapter, a supporter club to the Seven Knights, and it’s been nothing but a power struggle since he took over. My father has left him alone because he’s blood and hasn’t acted on his jealousy, but I’m worried if Damian finds out my father is dying and I’m next in line, he’ll kill me and Bellamy before taking over the club and making it his personal hell. I’m all about loyalty and brotherhood, but the way I see it, my Seven Knights brothers are family, and if my uncle is a threat to them, he needs to go. He’s not a brother anymore, he’s an enemy.

I need to get the fuck out of here. Tucking the letter under my pillow, I head out into the main hall and find the babysitter killer sitting on the couch, chewing his nails. He killed two babysitters and kept their rotting corpses in a storage unit. Hailey told me there was a crib and highchair he played in, acting like a child, pretending the dead women were caring for him. I’m pretty sure he’s the most fucked up one in here.

I tap him on the shoulder, and his weary eyes glance up at me. Holding my hand out, I show him the pills, and he sits up on his knees like an excited kid. “Keep the beefcakes distracted?” I offer.

Nodding, he picks the meds up from my palm and tosses them into his mouth, his teeth cracking down on them as if their Sweet Tarts. I pat his shoulder.

“Good boy. Now, go!” He jumps up from the couch and heads over to one of the bigger orderlies, screaming like the fucking exorcist and taking his clothes off. I casually walk over to the nurse’s station and check the door. Finding it locked, I roll my hand into a fist and slam it against the glass to get Hailey’s attention. She jumps upright with a squeal, a wrinkle between her eyebrows conveying her irritation. Unlocking the door, she shoves it open.

“Godric!”

Using my weight, I shove both of us into the room until her back hits the cabinets, folders falling to the ground. My face not even an inch from hers, I make her look at me.

“Hailey?”

She swallows, and I reach down and pull her hand up to where both of us can see that shiny new engagement ring she started wearing a few days ago.

“I don’t think your fiancé would like to know you let a murderer fuck you over a desk.” Her mouth parts, and I press my hand against it to shut her up, my dick twitching in my pants at the domination I have over this woman. I’m done being a puppet in this damn place. Done with this fucking system they have in play. She keeps me here as her toy while she plays house outside these walls. Her eyes begin to fill with tears, her harsh breaths causing her nostrils to flare.

Sliding my hand down until it falls to my side, my nose touching hers, I say, “Get me the fuck out of here. Now!” She doesn’t respond, and I take a step back to let what the fuck I just said sink in.
