Takedown - Page 5

“I’ve wanted to taste you all day long, Macy.”

His words take me by surprise, but I don’t have time to think because he’s straightening my clothes, running his hand through his hair. He stands up and gives me a cocky smirk that’s nothing but sexy.

Toby gives me a wink. “Thanks for lunch.”

Oh. My. God. I shake my head to clear it, trying to process what the fuck just happened. I do the only thing I can think of. I sit down and have lunch with my boss, just like I do every day of the week.

Does this mean I’ve been promoted to quality assurance?

Yeah, so, getting a taste of Macy was supposed to get my head put back on straight, right? Um, no. I’m even more distracted now that I’ve had her.

“Dude, what’s the deal?” Jake asks, giving me an impatient look. “You’ve been off in your own world all afternoon.”

I give myself a mental shake. I have to get my head in the fucking game. Tonight’s important. Like the most important night ever for the show. I’ve been in Jake’s office all afternoon going over the same shit because Macy keeps invading my brain.

“Sorry, man. I’m good. I promise.”

Jake grits his teeth. “Just tell me this. Does anyone have any idea what’s going down tonight?”

“You, last time I checked.” I smirk, my twelve-year-old boy humor apparently out in full force. Yeah, that shit never gets old.

Jake gives me his famous cocky grin, complete with wink, just like he does for the camera. “You know it. Can’t disappoint the ladies of the world.” The he’s all business again. “But seriously. Everything’s good to go? No one has a clue, right?”

“You, me, and Mia.” Mia’s the featured guest on tonight’s live broadcast. And is going to be a record breaker. I have no idea what’s going to happen after we air this.

“Perfect,” he says, nodding. “You can let the crew know what to do at the last minute.”

“Got it.” We haven’t been able to tell anyone for fear of being stopped before we could go through with it. But Jake’s insistent that we do this. His reputation is on the line. The whole Cunning Linguist franchise, really. And that’s just not cool.

I happen to believe in what Jake does, helping out the sex-starved and inhibited women of the world. Every woman that walks out of here swears it was a life-changing experience.

Yeah, he’s that good, at least according to them.

“You ready for me to pick up the torch if this all goes to hell?” I tease.

“It won’t.”

I don’t think it will either, but I can’t help getting in another jab. I mean, dude shouldn’t be able to get all the pussy, right? Share the wealth. I have no doubt that I can deliver just as good as Jake.

“Well, when you’re ready to retire, I’ll be here waiting.”

He laughs. “What, Macy’s not enough for you?”

I stop. “Wait. How do you know about that?”

“Anyone with ears on this floor knows about it. She was loud, dude.”

“Yeah, well, what can I say? You aren’t the only one around here who knows how to use his tongue.”

Jake smirks and shakes his head, then points a finger at me. “Still not getting my job.”

Neither one of us say it, but hopefully he’ll still have a job--and me too, for that matter--after what we have planned for tonight. Yeah, we’ve made a fortune on this show, self-made billionaires, but that doesn’t mean it can’t all be pulled out from under us if this goes bad. Mostly, if the audience isn’t as receptive as we think.

Jake notices my silence and gives me a reassuring clap on the shoulder. “We’ve got this, man.”
