Bat Boy (Easton U Pirates 1) - Page 29

“Is that where you were last night?” he asked as I slipped into my sneakers at the door. My entire body heated at the memory of dancing and kissing. It felt like a dream. A really good dream.

I straightened my shoulders. I had nothing to be ashamed of. I’d tell him eventually, when I was good and ready. “I met up with somebody.”

His face lit up with humor. “Look at you being all secretive about it.”

I shrugged. “Maybe.” I pulled open the door, and he followed behind me.

“One-time thing or more steady?”

“I dunno, okay?” I threw over my shoulder. “Stop drilling me.”

“Okay, fine, Mr. Sensitive.”

He was right. I was being overly touchy about it, but come to think of it, I always was about any sort of dating questions. “Sorry. Gotta get to class. See you at the field.”

I was distracted during both of my classes, and I needed to snap out of it, not only because I didn’t want to fall behind, but because we had a home game that afternoon.

Except, I couldn’t help playing the night at Neon on rotation in my brain. The way Kellan looked in makeup and body-skimming clothes. The way his mouth tasted. The way he encouraged me to dance with other guys, which at first made my stomach turn because I only had eyes for him—not that he knew that. Besides, at that point, I hadn’t told him much, but he’d likely deduced I was trying to make sense of my sexuality. I had enjoyed dancing with other people and being in the type of environment where I could freely kiss Kellan against a wall near the exit door if I chose to.

And now I’d be seeing him for the first time since last night, and I had no idea what he was even thinking. “Take all the time you need.”

He’d seemed stunned that he was my first kiss, but hopefully didn’t feel guilty or overthought it, not like I was.

Because without a doubt, that kiss had short-circuited my brain. Soft and hard, hot and sweet, and that groan that came from his throat made me so fucking hard. He didn’t seem to mind that either—he was just as turned on. I had never felt another stiff cock against my own, and at one point, I was close to jizzing in my pants like I did in the hotel room.

“Mr. Donovan?” I heard my name and realized the professor had called on me to answer his question. Shit. I needed to get my head together before word got back to Coach that I was slipping. He was pretty strict about not giving us a pass, and let the university president know in no uncertain terms that they were not to coddle his players.

What would he think of me kissing his son? Kellan had as much to lose as I did, and I needed to remember that.

I cleared my throat. “Sorry, can you repeat that, please?”

Once I made it through my classes, I showed up at the field way more nervous than I’d anticipated. But Kellan acted totally normal, like nothing had happened between us at all—and I didn’t really know what to do with that.

He even talked to Ricky and waved to my mom without anything seeming out of sorts. And though I was relieved, it rattled me as well. The kiss obviously meant way more to me, and how could it not? It was my first experience with a guy.

There were a couple of moments when our gazes met across the field during the game, and I could’ve sworn his cheeks turned a bit pinker—and not from the sun. So maybe I’d had an effect on him after all.

After the game, which we won by three runs, I was changing at my locker, lost in my head again. Even Girard and Maclain’s bickering didn’t faze me.

“What’s with the rabbit food?” Girard stood in front of the refrigerator and pulled out a couple of plastic bags.

The guys moved closer to see what all the fuss was about.

“What?” Kellan asked innocently, sweeping by us with a load of towels. “Donovan said you needed to start eating healthier—something he learned in his nutrition class, I guess. So I tossed all your snacks and opted for celery sticks and carrots.”

Everyone’s gazes swung to me, but I was too busy trying to catch Kellan’s eye because I was going to kill him. When he smirked in my direction, I realized he was just messing with them.

“That’s right,” I said, playing along. “As your team captain, I think all of you need to work on those beer guts.”

“You ass.” Our second baseman put me in a headlock, and before he strained my neck, I threw my hands up in surrender as a laugh tumbled out of my mouth.

“He was kidding!”
