“Okay. Well, hopefully I can reach those twelve before we leave.” I wink. I really don’t know what I want. Everything in me shouts irrational thoughts of having Whit’s babies, but the line ends with him. There will not be a Whit the fourth for sure.
My cell phone goes off, and I look at the number. It’s Whit. The damn brute made sure to put his number in my phone. “Hello?”
“What are you doing right now?” he growls, sounding uber sexy and impatient. Creaming is the first thing that comes to mind. I’ve only read about sex and touched myself a lot, but damn, I’m feeling like I could ride that man like he’s a bucking bronco.
“Well, I had my hand down my panties, stroking my pussy. You?” I ask, looking up at Georgie who is trying not to die laughing. I stand and walk into the bedroom I’m staying in and close the door so we have a bit of privacy.
“Thinking about spanking you for touching what’s mine,” he snarls.
“It’s not yours, Whit. You haven’t claimed it yet,” I remind him as I plop down on the bed, rubbing my thighs together, thinking about him claiming me.
“Baby, I claimed that shit the second I had my mouth on you. Now, get your shit because I’m on my way to get you.” I sit right back up in shock because I didn’t expect to see him until tomorrow.
“I’m not at your beck and call, Whit.”
“The hell you’re not. Be ready.” Damn, I love the way he speaks to me. I shouldn’t, but I sure as fuck do. I jump off the bed and grab my suitcase. I’m glad I didn’t unpack a thing.
“Don’t keep me waiting,” I add with sass before hanging up on him without giving him a chance to respond. My pulse picks up, thinking about his strong hands and his thick length, owning me.
When I head into the living room, Georgie’s reading a book on her phone. “Where are you going?” she asks with a grin on her face.
“To get to know the sheriff.” I wink at her before plopping down on the sofa next to her. “Maybe some experience to add to my books.”
“Sounds wise. Just be careful. You don’t even know if he has a wife, girlfriend, or not.” Instantly deflated, my shoulders slump.
“Well, I’ll make sure to ask that right away.” I hadn’t thought of that, and suddenly I feel foolish, a twinge of utter jealousy creeping into my belly and my lungs.
“Good. I’d hate for you to be played.”
I take a deep breath and plaster a smile on my face before patting her thigh and standing. “I’ll make sure to keep my heart out of it. Maybe you should try it, too.”
“I’ll think about it. So far, I’ll stick with books.” She waves her phone at me and I can’t blame her, given my hope for a career in the near future.
“Girl, I feel you. I read a really hot one just yesterday.”
There’s a knock at the door, stopping our conversation. “I’ve got it,” Bennett growls, stalking to the door. Seconds later he barks out, “Come on in, Marlowe.”
My heart races as I face the door, fixing my top nervously. He’s in his uniform still, which is so sexy. Our eyes meet, and my heart flutters wildly.
“There you are, Spunky. Are you ready?” He smiles at me, and my heart does a flip.
Returning his smile, I answer with sass, walking up to Whit with my suitcase in hand. “Born ready.”
“You going somewhere?” Darcy says, coming into the room, looking thoroughly kissed at the very least.
“Yes. She’ll call you sometime tomorrow, but I’m off for the next three days. Until I go back, she’ll be unavailable for visiting.”
“Damn, someone is bossy,” I add with a fake huff, but my eyes are smiling.
“He’s a wise man. I’ve been ready to bite everyone that knocks on my door.” Bennett crosses his arms, glaring at Whit.
“As long as we understand each other.” They shake hands and then Whit grabs my suitcase in one hand and my waist with the other, lifting me in his arms so we’re face to face. Damn, he’s strong. “I missed you.”
“It’s only been a few hours,” I remind him while my body agrees that it’s too damn long.
“More than a few…kiss me.”
“Do you have a girlfriend or a wife?” I throw out there. I have to know because this can’t go any further; if he does, I will junk punch him.
“Now I have a girlfriend, and soon you’ll be my wife. Don’t make me ask again. Kiss me.”
“That’s not asking.” I continue to bait him because my body wants him to show me who’s boss.
“Then you do as I command.” I kiss his cheek. He smiles and lets me go. “Say goodbye.”
I wave to them and then head out the door. It’s silly and extremely impetuous to leave with a stranger, but I feel safe with him. He helps me into an SUV that’s not the police vehicle he brought us in earlier, and it’s a very nice and sleek ride.
