“Like you wouldn’t have a prenup.” That isn’t a no. She’s playing with the idea in her mind. She might not be taking it seriously or think that I am, but the seed has been planted. Now I just have to let it grow.

“Never thought about one before.” That is the truth. I never thought about marriage before either. Now I am and I sure as fuck don’t need a prenup. I will pretty much give her anything she asks for. The only thing I won’t do is give her up before she’s given us a chance. That’s where I’ll draw the line. Everything else is fair game. What would be the point of a prenup anyway? There is nothing I won’t let her have. Her happiness is now the most important thing to me.

Even if I have to walk away from her I’ll make sure she’s always taken care of. Something as sweet as her should be cared for. She’s already gone through too much. How it hasn’t soured her I don’t know but I am going to make it my life’s purpose to make sure nothing can.

“No string of ex-wives?” she asks with her mouth full of food. How that’s adorable too I don’t know. Somehow she manages to make everything she does fucking cute.

“Google didn’t tell you?” I steal a fry from off her plate. She gives me a glare, her eyes following it. “I’ve got more,” I reassure her.

“Google says you’re rather boring.”

I laugh. “I guess I kind of am.” Life has been boring until my little protester showed up. Now it feels as though I have a new lease on life. A new beginning has been breathed into me. I’m not drifting aimlessly, wondering what is missing anymore. The answer now sits right in front of me eating all of the French fries.

“That’s why you’re blackmailing me? Because you’re bored?” She polishes off her burger. Her offhanded comments hit me harder than I think she realizes. I don’t want her to think I’m here only because I’m bored. I sit up. I don’t stop myself from doing what I’ve wanted to since we sat down. I reach for her.

Just like in her sleep, her body comes to me. Her mouth might say one thing but her body says another. She clung to me in her sleep. She craved touch. I want to make sure it’s only my touch and affection she ever wants.

“I’ve been bored,” I admit. I’ll always give the truth when she asks me. Her hands rest on my chest. God, she feels good in my lap. There’s no hiding my cock. It presses into her, begging for attention. “It’s not why I’m blackmailing you though. I want you. That’s clear.”

She wiggles in my lap. Her porcelain skin tints a shade of pink. “You didn’t want it last night.” Her breathing grows heavy. I know when she’s aroused now. I saw it in her eyes last night. I’ll never forget it.

“Because I’m going to show you that I might be blackmailing you—“ I reach up to brush my thumb against her bottom lip. I want to kiss her but I don’t trust myself right now. “That this isn’t about sex, the chase or even my business.”

“Then what is it about?” She licks her bottom lip. Her tongue grazes my thumb.

“Making you fall in love with me.” Her eyes widen as she lets out a small gasp. Now she’s getting it. I haven’t been playing a game. My comments haven’t been jokes. I am dead serious. I always am when I want something. It’s how we Roberts work. We’re all or nothing and she’s my all. Now I have to wait and see if I’m hers.

“This?” he asks, holding up a ball of cookie dough I made with his help.

“Perfect.” I turn my back to him to try and refocus on what I’m doing. Baking is second nature to me. I could do it with my eyes closed at this point. Now standing in the coffee shop’s small kitchen with him I can’t remember how to make my lemon cakes. After he told me he was going to make me fall in love with him he set me back in my chair and put another burger on my plate as he pulled out one for himself. He and Bear made themselves right at home. Both look ridiculously big in my small space, each of them taking up all of the room in not only my home but my heart.

My thoughts are all over the place when it comes to Jax. If his words are sincere—which my gut is telling me they are—then I want to embrace them. This is all happening so quick. I feel as though I’ve been alone for so long besides my friends that I don’t want to seem desperate. I mean, days ago I hated the man and now I’m playing house with him. He may have forced my hand but unlike his business, I’m really not protesting his advances. If anything I’m welcoming them. Since I don’t have any experience in this department, I’ll have to find time to sit and talk to Millie about him.
