Spark - Page 21

“Rolling balls, you say.” My sister leans her hip against one of the counters. It’s then I notice she’s in jeans and sneakers. Her hair is pulled up and I don’t notice a speck of makeup on her face. She looks relaxed. Andrea is always all done up and looking professional. She always has to have her game face on at work. She picks up one of the balls I rolled, taking a bite of the raw cookie dough. Her eyes close as she savors the taste.

“Holy shit that’s good.” She takes another bite. “You should sell these at your coffee shops.” Bailey goes rigid in my hold. My sister is as good at reading people as I am. “Or not.” She polishes off the rest of it. “They are just wonderful. You should share them with the world.”

”Thank you but I already do. When Millie’s is open. Our hours are posted on the front door or you can find them on the website.” Fuck. I love the fight in my girl but I don’t want her to have to fight. She’s fought too much in her life already.

“The door was unlocked,” Andrea points out in her own defense. “I like her.” She grabs another ball of cookie dough.

“You staying in town?” I’m happy Andrea likes her but it doesn’t matter at the end of the day. Bailey isn’t going anywhere. It’s still a little surprising to hear her say that. Andrea usually takes time to warm up to people.

“Yep. Forgot how beautiful it is here.” It is. We used to come as kids with our parents. Once we got older we got too wrapped up in work to remember the good times. What we’d done for fun. I’m thinking my sister is having the same realization as I am. Life is too short not to spend it with someone you love. Work is necessary for the means to do things but money isn’t everything. Sometimes you need to step back and look around and enjoy all the wonderful things that surround you.

“I’ll call you tomorrow.” Her eyebrows rise and I give her a look. She backs down. We might tease and poke each other but we also know when to stop. I don’t know if it’s a twin thing or that we’re close.

“Nice meeting you, Bailey,” Andrea says, not needing an introduction. I’m sure she’s already done a little digging. I don’t blame her. I’d do the same to Jason if I didn’t already know the man so well.

“You can take a few with you.” I fight a smile because even though Bailey gave my sister that smart mouth not only minutes ago, she still can’t help being sweet. Everything about her is sweet. I can still taste her on my tongue. I need my sister out of here so I can enjoy more of her.

“I’ll be back tomorrow. I’ll buy some.” She gives a wink before turning to leave. I let go of Bailey to follow her and lock the door behind her. When I come back, Bailey is looking down at her worn sneakers.

“Nothing’s changed,” I tell her as I clear the space between us. I use my finger to tilt her chin back so she has to look up at me with those big blue eyes. She reminds me of a little fairy.

“I just—“

I kiss her. I know she can taste herself on my lips. I’m reminding her of what I just did to her body. I plan on worshiping her more. I pull back before we get out of control because every time I kiss her, she clings to me. I fucking love it but she comes first. I step back, adjusting my cock.

“We just need to finish baking or you’ll be upset you didn’t get it done for tomorrow.” Her plump lips part in surprise as if she’s now remembering we’ve been cooking. “Then I’ll take you upstairs.” She nods in agreement. My sister has done us a small favor. We never would have made it back down here for her to wrap up her baking. I don’t want there to be any room for her to think that I’m sabotaging her work. I need to make sure she gets all of her things done. I’m going to prove to her that I am here with her best interests in mind. She’s all that matters. Her happiness is now my life’s mission.

Jax does help me get done faster than normal. Not by much. The problem is more about baking space than anything. I could have all the hands in the world helping me but if you don’t have the space there isn’t much you can do.

Not only is he helping me but the man is charming and funny. He’s the whole package. I can’t find anything wrong with him except for maybe he’s a workaholic. That’s probably the reason he hasn’t been snatched up by someone already. I don’t know why he’s got his sights set on me but they are. There is still the dilemma of what he’s doing next door. He says he’s not opening a coffee shop but what is he up to over there still? No matter how many times I try to let myself grow close to him that still lingers in my mind.
