“So, this is good, right?” Jane asks curiously. “You’re doing something good.”
“I am. And you need to do something good as well, you need to do this treatment for me.”
She doesn’t look convinced, but eventually she bobs her head in a nod. “Maybe I will.”
She will, I’m going to make sure of it. I won’t let her get away with not doing this. We need to have this moment of hope, give us something to strive towards. I smile at Jane and she half smiles back, not totally convinced. I hold her hand tigh
ter, reassuring her in silence, allowing her to ponder this. We will make this work.
Oh God. My heart is hammering, racing hard against my rib cage. This is even worse than the interview. Now I’m here to start the job, it’s somehow way scarier. Before I knew that I wouldn’t fit in, but now this time, I’m going to have to try to at least find my place in this scary world that I know nothing about.
All eyes are on me as I walk into the building. Or at least I feel that way. I’m shyer than I have ever been, but I need to pull it together. For Jane. I just hope that the sexual favors part of the job doesn’t start today. It’s overwhelming enough that I need to do a job that I don’t really know anything about.
“Ah, Lexi, you are here.” Isaac’s voice is surprisingly welcome. “Good, please come with me.”
I follow him towards a giant room that quickly becomes clear it’s an office. His office, I presume, not the interview room I was in before, the last time I was here. It’s posh, slick, and it’s clearly there to show importance. I try not to let that intimidate me.
“So, you’re here.” He smiles at me. “I wasn’t totally sure that you would be, if I’m honest.”
“You didn’t think that I would come?” He shakes his head. “So, I am.”
“I know. That’s good news. I’m happy about that. It’s good to have some spice here.”
I can’t get sucked into whatever this little game is that he’s trying to pull, so I just ignore him. “So, where do I get started? What do you need me to do? I didn’t come here to just stand around.”
My pulse races, I half expect him to whip his cock out, telling me to touch it. I guess I will have to, the money is so good that I can’t turn it down. But he doesn’t, he points towards the filing cabinet.
“I need this sorted today. The last personal assistant that worked for me left it in a mess. I was always told that she knew exactly what she was doing, but it seems not… unless she messed it up to spite me.”
“You heard?” I ask, ignoring the part about spite. It’s probably for the best that I don’t know why she left here. I don’t want this journey to begin on the wrong foot. And if it truly is hell, I can leave once Jane has been through her treatment and return to a job where I feel more comfortable.
“You didn’t see?” I reply back.
“What do you mean?”
“You said that you heard she was good at her job. I’m asking why you didn’t see it. If she was your personal assistant, why didn’t you see how well she was doing. That doesn’t make any sense.”
He pauses for a moment before laughing. “Alright, you caught me, I’m no good at my job either.”
“But they let you keep managing the place? That seems like a bad business decision.”
“You think so? That’s something you would have to take up with my father, I’m afraid.”
Ah, things are starting to make a little more sense now. That’s where the sense of entitlement comes from. He’s a rich daddy’s boy who doesn’t have to work hard to become rich. He has everything handed to him and probably doesn’t know what the word “NO” means. I’m starting to understand who that person in the restaurant was, the man who also suggested prostitution to me in a job interview.
Okay, so now I know where I stand. I can work with that.
“Right, well I will get this sorted then. No worries. You carry on with whatever you need to. I won’t get in your way. And holler at me if you need me to do something different.”
He wiggles his eyebrows suggestively at me, but I ignore that. I’m usually very much in control of myself and what happens to me, so admittedly losing that isn’t easy, but it isn’t for me, so I can do anything.
It’s been a laugh, that’s one thing I can say about this job. I wasn’t expecting that at all. I assumed that it was going to be a bit of a nightmare to be honest, but I’ve had a good time with Isaac. I can’t speak about how good he is at his job because I don’t really understand what it is that he does, but we’ve had a good time.
I’ve tried to remain professional, but Isaac does something to unlock me a little. Not in a flirty way, he’s toned that down, thank goodness, but he’s brought out a friendly side of me.
“Who is that?” I hear someone whisper as I leave the women’s bathroom. “She looks weird.”
“Some new girl. Isaac’s new bit on the side, I suppose. He’s obviously going exotic.”
