“We’re always on your side, Georgie. We love you.”
“Yeah, we want the best for you. You said you saw him and you thought babies right away. Have you ever felt that way before?”
“No.”
“So then we wanted to give you a second chance to see if it works. He’s not going to be there much longer, and then you can part ways and never speak again.”
“Or you can have a bunch of little babies,” Lydia squeals. “Sorry, girls. I’ve got to go. Whit’s waking up from his nap, and I’m sure he’s going to need his meds. I’ll talk to you later. I love you both.”
“Thanks. I’m going to go too. I have some thinking to do. I love you both.” I end the call, head into my bedroom, and lie on my bed. Sean’s not going to be back for a while, so I have time to do some soul searching. I don’t know how long I’m there, but my stomach rumbles so I decide to get up and get dressed for the day.
I head out into the city and onto the train. That’s when I finally notice that there are two people that I’ve seen around. They both get on the train together with me, and it hits me how unobservant I have been. It’s a good thing that he had someone watching me. I’ve always prided myself on walking quickly to my destination and looking around, but I’ve never noticed the actual people and their features.
“Hey, Georgiana,” a voice calls out, and I look up to see a guy I went to school with. He was in three of my classes in the past couple of years, but he graduated last year. “It’s Rick Salinas. How are you?”
“Good. You?”
“Good. I haven’t seen you since I graduated.”
“How is life treating you?”
“It’s good. I’m actually on my way to a meeting. It’s nice to work from home sometimes, but I’m glad they called a staff meeting because at least I get to see a beautiful face.” I see the look on the face of my security guard; he heard what Rick said, so I’m guessing he’s going to report to Sean that someone gave me a compliment.
“Thanks. It’s really nice seeing you.”
“Where are you headed?”
“I’m going to meet my boyfriend for a late lunch.”
“What a lucky bastard. I guess I should have asked you out when I had my chance all those times. Well, you snooze, you lose. This is my stop. It was good to see you, Georgiana. If you ever lose that boyfriend, call me.” He hands me his business card and I take it to be polite, but I already know that Sean is the only one I want.
“I will,” I say, again just being polite, and from the look on his face he probably knows it. He’s good looking, but we’ve never even considered dating before, so why now? My stop is the next one, and I get off on State Street to walk around. It’s a perfect day to enjoy some time at the park before it gets crazy. The storm thankfully brought in a cool breeze so it’s not stifling, which is nice, but it will be brutal tomorrow.
I decide to go do some window shopping because I don’t have a budget to buy anything other than necessities. Three hours later, I’m back on the train and heading back to the apartment. As soon as I reach the front door, Sean pulls up in a rental car. He parks his car in the open spot, and I wait for him because we have a lot to talk about.
“You’re back early,” I say nervously as he approaches. God, he’s so handsome, and my heart’s racing. I thought I’d have time to shower and look pretty before he got home. Maybe figure out how to come off sexy for him.
“Yeah, I didn’t feel like staying for the rest of today’s program. How was your day?” he asks.
“Fantastic, but tiring. I’m ready to go inside and relax.”
“Okay.” I lead the way inside and he follows closely behind without uttering a word, and yet I can feel the tension rolling off his body. I wonder what’s up his butt. Once I pull out my keys, Rick’s card falls out of my pocket. Sean quickly picks it up and snarls.
“Who’s Rick?”
I walk into the apartment. “A friend,” I answer, setting down my bag and keys before walking into the living room. He follows me after closing and locking the front door.
“Someone who calls you beautiful, and you let him without getting mad.”
I spin around and snatch the card from his hand. “First, it’s none of your business. Second, how would you know he called me that? And lastly, which one of your security team members told you that?”
He thrusts his hands into his hair that looks like he’s gotten it cut, and I think it’s sexy as hell. I’m actually jealous of the stylist who gets to run her fingers through his hair to trim it. “Listen, Georgie. I thought I could do this, but I can’t. I fucking love you. I knew I loved you from the first time I saw you. When you pushed me away, I thought I could give you space and time, and then I had my window to come and learn to win your heart, to make you feel the way I do, but I’ve only been here three fucking days and I’m losing my damn mind. All I can think about is making you mine in every way.” He lifts me up into his arms and I throw my arms around his neck, bringing my lips to his. We kiss wildly as he drops down to his favorite chair.
