“Just a nobody,” he shrugged, picking up his drink.
“Nobody? Well, Kai, that’s just not true now, is it? Tell me, were you seeing her last month when you were in my bed, whispering sweet nothings into to my ear?” Kat purred provokingly with a smirk, her head tilted to the side.
“That was a mistake, Kat. A one off.”
“I bet poor Myla here, didn’t even know, did she?” Kat challenged. She pulled her lips into a pout. “My bad.”
Sensing Kai’s uncomfortableness and Kat’s need to cause trouble, Myla looked at Kai and winked before looking back at Kat. “Actually, I did know. I didn’t realize you were the one. Kai told me all about it, he was so upset, Kat. He said you were the biggest mistake of his life.”
Kat reared her head back, shocked. “You know and yet you’re still marrying him?” She gasped.
“Of course, he is the love of my life and I can’t live without him,” she replied and turned to kiss his cheek. She heard him let a little chuckle out.
Kat sat looking Myla over before popping her lips. “You know I didn’t think she would be your type, Kai.”
“Really?” He asked with raised eyebrows. “Well, I can tell you this, she is all woman, and definitely my type otherwise I wouldn’t be marrying her, would I?”
“I am here you know, you don’t need to talk about me in third person,” Myla growled feeling agitated at the situation she had found herself stuck in.
“I’m sorry, Boo,” Kai said. He released his death hold on her hand and brought his arm around her shoulders. Pulling her in close, he kissed the top of her head.
“Excuse me, while I vomit.” Kat grumbled as the jealousy in her began to prevail.
“Look Kat, what happened between us was a mistake, I told you that night. Now please just go and let Myla and I enjoy our meal, in peace.”
“You are a piece of shit, Kai Baxter,” Kat suddenly spat as she swiped Myla’s glass from the table and launched the lemonade into his face.
Myla jumped up from the chair, the cold liquid landed over her shoulder and cheek and she gasped. How many more things are going to get thrown my way?!
“You, Myla are an absolute idiot for staying with him. You should dump his ass to the curb,” Kat said angrily.
“What? So, you can get your claws into him yourself?” retorted Myla, louder than she intended as she slammed her fists on to the table.
The restaurant had suddenly gone silent and all eyes were turned in their direction. Myla’s patience was now thin and she felt her body tremble with anger. Anger at Kai for using her as a pawn between himself and Kat, anger at Kat for ruining her nice meal, anger at her lie that seemed to have caused so much stress for her this past week, but most of all anger at herself for not having the balls to stand up to her mother and tell her the truth.
“You are welcome to him, love,” Kat growled.
“Enough,” Kai roared. He rose to his feet and wiped his wet face on a used napkin from the table. Slamming it down, he placed his hands on the table and leaned towards Kat. “Just go!”
“Don’t you worry, I’m going, Kai. I hope you will be very happy together, you suit each other. Dumb and fucking dumber.” Slinging her purse strap over her shoulder, she rose to her feet and turned to walk away.
“What did you just call me?” Myla seethed through clenched teeth.
“Leave it, Myla. Just ignore her,” Kai warned, as he placed a palm at the small of her back. The small intimate gesture sent a shiver down her spine.
“Are you deaf? What did you just call me?” Myla repeated in an attempt to distract herself from Kai’s thumb that was now lazily rubbing her lower back.
“Leave it, Myla. Let’s just go,” Kai suggested, concern began to grip him that this was going to lead to more than just a heated exchange of words.
Turning back towards them, Kat smiled. “Keep him on a tight leash, you never know when this Kitty Kat will get her claws into him again.”
That’s it! “Cats need feeding, don’t they? Here’s a meal for free,” Myla shouted. Her anger had finally won, and before she could stop to think, she picked up her plate and launched it in Kat’s direction. She smiled when Kat cried hysterically and attempted to flick off the contents of the plate that was sliding down her clothes.
Grabbing her purse, Myla pulled out a bunch of folded papers and turned to look at Kai who was stunned at Myla’s outburst. She slipped them into his hand.
“What’s this?” He asked quietly, with a quizzical look at her triumphant face.
“That, Tiger, is your homework. Learn it and I’ll see you at Gatwick airport tomorrow evening at 9pm. Terminal One, don’t be late.”
