He broke out in a grin. “Whatever you want, Charlie.” He reached out and pulled me in for a hug so tight I could barely breathe. “We’ll take as long as you need to get back to where we were. I’m so sorry I ruined everything.”
I hugged him back and then wiggled so he’d loosen his hold. “No more apologizing. Let’s move forward. Slowly.”
“I can do that.” He tucked my hair behind my ear. “Can I kiss you?”
“Yes, please.”
He cupped my face in both his hands and leaned in, capturing my lips in a sweet kiss that sent shivers through my body. I grasped his arms for balance as he kissed me again and again. We were lost in each other until a group of teenagers zipped by on their bicycles and told us to get a room.
Tobin pulled back but didn’t call after the laughing teens.
“Can I pick you up at six tomorrow?”
I nodded. “I’ll be ready then.”
He released my face and pulled me into his chest again, clutching me to him like he feared I’d disappear. Which, to be fair, was pretty close to happening a few days ago.
“Thank you for giving me another chance, Charlie. I promise you, you won’t regret it.”
I stepped back and turned to open my car door, then slid inside. I truly hoped he kept his promise and that in a few months we’d back to normal, but words weren’t enough.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Tobin.”
