I shake my head. “I am not sure. I told him we couldn’t let Brian find out, and he asked if I meant about last night or the next time.” Ally makes a sexy face at me and bites her lip and raises her eyebrows up and down really fast at me.
I quickly add. “I don’t know if he was being serious though. He is always so charming, so it might’ve just been part of his personality. Brian did mention his dad goes out with a lot of different women. Dean played it off like they were work functions, but maybe he just didn’t want his son to think he was a player.”
Ally thinks about what I said for a few moments. “Well, there is only one way to find out. You have to talk to Dean.”
I know she is right, but I don’t even know when I am going to see him next. He was gone when I woke up this morning with the note for us that he had some business to take care of today. I am not even sure how long that is going to take. Maybe he left on a business trip.
It’s not like I have his phone number to text him. Maybe I could ask Brian for it. Pretend it has something to do with the house. No. No that’s dumb. Dean might not even want me to text him. It’s not like he gave me his number last night. Ugh. I wish I just knew what he was thinking.
As if just thinking about him summons him up, Dean walks into the cafe with his hand on the small of some blonde’s back as they ask the hostess for a table. My shoulders slump.
Well I guess that answers all my questions.
???
I am squirming in my chair, trying to hide myself so Dean doesn’t see me. Ally looks at me funny, and then checks over her shoulder to see what I am looking at. Of course, Dean stands out in a crowd with his tall stature and perfectly fitted suit. Not to mention how gorgeous his smile is, but it’s his eyes though that really set him apart the most. Those bright green eyes that are staring right back at mine like they are gazing into my soul. I avert my gaze from him and look back at Ally. She whips her head back around to me. “Oh my god. Is that him?”
I give a small nod, trying to make it look like we aren’t talking about him even though we obviously are. Ally turns around to check him out again. “Damn girl! Get it!”
I nod my head to the side and glare back at Ally “Really?”
She apologizes, but her smile says she is not sorry at all. I look down at my lap.
“Maybe I will just come stay with you. Maybe I can steal some pillows from Brian to use on your couch. It’s the least these Douglas men owe me after all the turmoil they’ve put me through.”
Ally laughs, but she can tell I am disappointed about Dean being here with some girl. “C’mon girl. You never let a little competition get in your way before. She’s not even that pretty.”
I glance over to the blonde in the short black dress. Her legs are long and tone in her heels and let’s just say her rack puts mine to shame. I glance back at Ally. “Really?”
She laughs a little. “Okay sure, she’s smoking hot, but you can tell she’s totally fake. And if Dean doesn’t see how you are so much sexier than some bimbo, then he probably isn’t the right guy for you anyway.”
I know she’s right, but somehow Brian cheating on me didn’t hurt so bad when I had Dean’s attention. Now that that’s gone too, I am starting to feel bad about myself.
I need to get away from him for a second, so I don’t break down. “I am going to run to the bathroom a minute. Want to hit the mall after this? I have a couple hours before my shift, and I'd rather not go back to my temporary home.” Ally smiles back at me “Sure.”
I don’t actually have to use the bathroom, so I just touch up my hair and makeup for a few minutes to waste time. I at least want to look my best when I walk out so he knows what he is missing. There’s a knock at the bathroom door since they only have two single stall bathrooms here. At first, I think it is Ally checking to see if I am okay, but she would have just shouted some inappropriate thing through the door in true Ally fashion, so it must just be someone trying to use the bathroom. “Just a second.”
I go to the door and open it up to let the next person in when I am suddenly pushed back in. It takes a moment for my brain to process what just happened. My back is pressed against the door I just opened, and there are arms boxing me in on both sides of my head. When I look up, I am staring into the most beautiful green eyes. “Dean?”
I hear the sound of the deadbolt clicking back into place, and I glance down to see Dean just locked the door and his body is pressed against me everywhere. “What are you doing?”
His voice is so deep and gravely against my ear “I tried to stop myself, but I couldn’t resist.” He licks at the spot below my ear and continues to trail kisses down my neck. I try to lean away a little “What about your date?”
Dean just laughs “Date?” He says the word like he doesn’t know what I am talking about.
He continues his kisses across my collarbone, and I am getting so hot I know if I don’t stop this now, I won’t be able to.
This time I use my hand to push his chest away. “Yes date. You looked pretty cozy over there with Miss mini dress.”
Dean’s lips twitch up on one side into a mischievous smirk. "Are you jealous Caroline?”
His smile grows even bigger. I can’t tell if him being so nonchalant means nothing really is going on with Malibu Barbie or if he is just such a player he doesn’t care he has one date waiting for him outside while he is in here with me.
“My friend is waiting for me.” I try to push at his chest again.
Instead of letting me leave, Dean presses his body against mine again and starts nuzzling my neck with his nose. “I told her to leave.”
I push him away again so I can look him in the eyes. “You what?”
