I don’t want to believe her but Kiara kinda has a point, I know it deep down. “I—”
She wraps one arm around my shoulders. “Look Len, I’m not saying he doesn’t give a shit about you, but you’re making it too easy for him to cast you aside when something or someone else catches his attention. It has to end tonight. He asked you out for your birthday, so maybe for once in his life Darrius Penn has gotten his head out of his own ass and he looked at someone other than himself. All I’m saying is that this is your chance to show him that you’re what he wants. So get out there and don’t be shy. My mom always says, ‘the woman who dares is the one who walks up the aisle and throws her wedding flowers for all the rest of the losers to fight over.’”
Sarah nods, obviously sold on Kiara’s action plan. “Kiara isn’t wrong, babe. You’ve been pining for him long enough, you need to know if he’s into you.”
I lower my gaze, already feeling uncertainty taking hold of me. “But he has a girlfriend; I spoke to him last night, when he asked me to be his date at tonight’s party. If they’d split up, he’d have told me.”
Kiara grabs my purse and puts it in my hands. “He and Lisa are having problems; that’s what I’ve heard. So it’s your chance. Go get him, tiger!” she says, pushing me out of my room and down the stairs just as we hear Darrius’ corvette pulling up out front.
