He fingered her ring, worriedly.
“I would marry you tonight if I didn’t suspect it would ruin Bo’s plans for a fancy dress,” April told him. “Nothing about this feels too fast to me.”
“Oh, you’re one hundred percent right about Bo,” Khall told her. “She was delirious with joy at the idea of a wedding. I hope you have a vision of what you want. If not, you’re likely to get steamrolled.”
“None at all,” April said. “But I’m sure we’ll all have fun planning it together. I’ll bet Bo’s got some good ideas.”
“But first, a pet, right?” Khall asked.
“Yes,” she told him dreamily. “How did I get so lucky? You’re a very generous man.”
His chest puffed out with pride and his gorgeous green skin deepened in hue, showing his pleasure.
“You’re not as lucky as I am,” he told her, lifting her hand to his mouth and kissing each of her knuckles in turn.
Her heart was full to bursting.
“Girls,” he yelled. “House is ours now. Time to go to the animal shelter.”
That earned him two happy cheers.
As the girls ran to join them, Khall leaned in to whisper in April’s ear.
“I love you, April,” he told her. “I always will.”
“I love you too,” she murmured back, awash with happiness.
Bo flung her arms around April’s waist, plastering her little face to her stomach.
“Come on, Minerva,” April said. “It’s not a group hug without you.”
Minerva grinned and joined the embrace, and Khall wrapped his arms around them all.
April closed her eyes and soaked in her happily ever after.
