Chase places a finger to my lips and I look up at him in surprise. “It’s no problem, sweetheart, so don’t you apologize. We’re here to help and that includes the little things.” I don’t point out that picking up your significant other’s kid from daycare because they’re having a breakdown is not a little thing.
Instead, I nod my head and he gives a smile. “I’ll go grab Tanner if that’s okay with you?” He points down the hall and I nod, watching him head to Tanner’s room.
Nathan takes a seat next to me, our knees bumping. “I hate that I wasn’t here earlier but the guys didn’t tell me until an hour or so ago.”
“It’s okay,” I reassure him. I honestly never expected for them to go as far as they have just to take care of me and mine. I can’t say that anyone else other than my family has ever done it before.
“I did bring food, though, shrimp alfredo.”
I smile at that. “That’s perfect, thank you.”
Tanner comes into the room, a couple of paces in front of Chase and his shoulders are still deflated but he looks a little better. He takes the open seat next to me as Nathan moves to the kitchen to start issuing out the food.
Emmet brings the plates to the table and Chase gets Lilly set in her high chair. “I have to take your car seat out of my car, by the way,” he tells me.
I shake my head. “I completely forgot about the car seat.”
“It’s no worries, I came and got the keys from Emmet and got it out.” Of course he did, because they thought of everything today.
He takes a seat across from me. “And don’t worry about that speeding ticket, I’ll get it taken care of.”
My lips part slightly at that. “You can do that?”
He gives me a wolfish grin. “Of course, sweetheart, sometimes we can pull a couple of strings for family.” My heart warms at that and I reach across the table to grab his hand.
After the plates are all on the table, everyone sits around and as I take in the three men and the two kids who were recently added to my life, I feel some pressure lift off my chest.
Today was stressful and a reminder that everything isn’t going to be easy at times. But with these three men at my side, for as long as I can keep them, I won’t have to do it all alone.
