She held my hand tighter. “Nonsense. You treated my baby good. Now, tell me more about Jacolby. She got you out of that dark funk so I know she’s special.”
My smile returned. “Junior is special, and one day I hope you will agree to meet her.”
“Of course. It would be an honor.”
“Thanks. I…umm…Is it bad that my desire and passion to love Jacolby sparked the fire to change…to completely heal?”
“Heck, you should've said something long ago. I would’ve had her in your face years ago.”
Hell no.
Jacolby and Jalonie would’ve tag teamed and jump me if that happened. Things played out how they were supposed to and that’s all that matters. “Nah, she and I back then…we needed this time and if our paths crossed…destruction and chaos would’ve overshadowed the love we have for one another.”
“Well, I’m glad you're finding your footing. Opening yourself up for love. Moving forward with your life.” Her smile reached her twinkling eyes and a sigh of contentment settled in my spirit. I respected her enough to cherish her approval. No, it wouldn’t have stopped me from pursuing Jacolby but like I was learning to do with my mother, I would’ve had to implement boundaries that protected my woman.
“Me too. Now, can I get a piece of that cake I smell?”
