KINGSTON
“Open this fucking door, Sunday.”
Was it the most respectful way to get her attention? No. But I was desperate. She was in pain. She needed me. I hammered on the door hard enough the walls rattled. When I heard a soft moan from inside, I lost it. Shoulder braced, I barreled into the wood, splintering the frame and sending the door crashing inward.
“What the fuck, Kingston?” Moira screeched, her hands flying up to cover her bare tits.
“Put those things away, witch. What the hell do you think you’re doing? Sunday is my mate, and no one else should be servicing her. Least of all you.”
Her expression shifted from shock to anger to amusement as fast as the accusations flying from my lips.
“First of all, asshole, this is my room. You don’t get to enforce a dress code. Second of all, the only person I was servicing was my girlfriend.”
“Yourwhat?” I snarled.
She rolled her eyes and pointed at the computer screen I hadn’t noticed sitting in front of her on the bed. “Meet Ash. My girlfriend.”
The pretty woman on the screen waved at me sheepishly. “Hi.”
Realizing my mistake, I wiped a hand down my face. “Fuck. Sorry.”
“You should be. We were just getting to the good part.” Moira narrowed her eyes and frowned at me. “Now I have to start all over, you clitblocker.”
Heat crept up my neck, the embarrassment unfamiliar and unwelcome.
“Call me back later, Mo? I’ll be ready when you’re done with the dog.”
“Sure thing, sweetness. Keep that kitty purring until I can come take care of it.”
“Jesus, fuck,” I groaned.
Moira snapped the laptop closed and pulled on her silk robe, throwing daggers at me with her eyes. “Nope. You don’t get to have an opinion about the things I say to my girlfriend, you fuck. Now why did you go and assault my door? What the hell did it ever do to you?”
“Where is my mate? She needs me.”
Her brows lifted, hidden behind a thick fringe of rainbow-colored locks. “She does, does she? Did she tell you that?”
“I can fucking smell it.”
Moira bit her lip and hummed. “Well, that sucks. I thought for sure I got the ratio right this time.”
“What the hell are you going on about?”
“For the cleansing spell. You shouldn’t smell her at all if I did it correctly.”
“Wait. Were you trying to hide her from me intentionally?”
“You. The dogs keeping watch in the hallway. Pretty much everybody with a penis, really.”
Understanding dawned. It wasn’t just me affected by her heat. Every unattached male here must be going crazy. But I doubted they felt the pull like I did. My instinct screamed to rut and claim and fill her. I was at a rolling boil, ready to overflow. They must only be at a simmer, or I’d have noticed. Wouldn’t I?
“Tell me where she is, Moira. I need to get to her.”
“Sorry, can’t,” she said, sounding anything but.
I let more than a little of my wolf into the words as I stalked toward her. “You will tell me, or I will make you.”
