Hunter demolished his smoke in record time as he considered this. Would this work? Would Hunter accept this? He glanced at Leo several times, mouth pressed down.

“This is under the assumption she would agree to this,” Hunter mused. “She might not.”

“She might not,” Leo agreed.

But they both knew Skye would agree. She wanted them both equally, and she wanted them both to get along. They needed to wave their white flags and surrender. To have Skye, both men needed to be at peace.

It was not going to be that easy. Especially as their worlds would collide. It was going to get messy, but…they would have her, goddammit.

They stewed some more, looking at one another, exchanging knowing looks. They were communicating…and Leo resisted smiling because he had missed this connection more than he realized. Hunter remained guarded, but Leo sensed the conflict.

“Skye deserves happiness,” Hunter whispered then, sighing deeply.

“We all do,” Leo whispered back.

After Hunter squashed yet another cigarette, he moved to Leo quickly. Leo’s body tensed, ready for another round of fighting, but this time Hunter grabbed Leo’s shoulder and shoved him to him, giving him a bear hug. “I’m sorry,” he gruffly said, holding Leo to him like he used to. “I didn’t mean what I said. You’re not your old man, alright? I didn’t mean it.”

Leo hugged him back, closing his eyes as he choked back emotion. “You’re not nothing, man. I was angry—”

“Yeah—”

“I’m sorry.”

“Yeah.”

“I’m fucking sorry.”

“I know, Leo.”

Heart expanding, he let out a hard breath. “I missed this, Hunt.”

Hunt nodded, and his voice was choked up when he replied, “Let’s fix this. Let’s do this for Skye.”

Anything, Leo wanted to say.

He would do anything for Skye—for Hunter, too.

At the end of the day, he loved them both equally.
