“What the heck was that about?” my sister asks, her bottom lip practically on the floor.

“I found the woman I’m going to marry,” I confess, shuffling the papers in front of me with no true purpose for it.

“That’s what it looked like. I’ve never seen you that way before.” And she never will when it comes to anyone but Lia. I stare toward the line where I first spotted her. Her long brown hair fell over her shoulder, and the morning sun beamed on it, revealing hints of naturally red highlights, matching her red top that hugged every inch of her succulent breasts. She has a tiny waist that I’ll be doing my best to change. Her shorts made my mouth water with how they cupped her ass perfectly.

“Well, the right person can change your life.”

“Yeah, the day I meet the one, I hope he’s as wonderful as you. She’s a lucky girl.”

“Thank you. And you’ll find a good man, or I’ll bury him.” One man already came to my mind. He’s the delivery driver. Actually, he’s not, but he hasn’t let on that he owns the company that makes my sister’s branded coffee cups. This morning when I came in to receive his delivery, he kept looking around and then I finally gave the guy a break and told him she was out front. It didn’t help the poor guy, but I did give him a concession and offer his sister a job interview.

“Phil’s a nice guy,” I add, trying to test the waters, and my sister doesn’t disappoint.

“Yes, he is.” A dreamy look in her eyes gives me all the information I need to know. I’m glad I did a background check on the guy. She needs someone who’s going to love and protect her like I have.

“Brie, can you give us a hand?” Beth asks. She’s the one who served my woman, and I didn’t forget the attitude she had. She’s lucky that Brie needs employees or I would have fired her. She’s always late and trying to make excuses to contact me about supplies like Brie isn’t the owner and boss. I hate when people treat Brie less than respectfully because she has mental setbacks.

I try to ignore Beth and focus on the paperwork for the café when in walks a nervous teen, and she looks around as if searching for someone. “Hello, are you looking for anyone?” I ask. I’m guessing this is Phillip’s sister who needs a job.

“Yes, my brother told me that they’re hiring, and I’m supposed to meet Mr. Williams for an interview.” I already like her. She gave off that genuinely sweet kind of girl. She’d be perfect to work with Brie, especially if Phil gets the nerve to ask Brie out.

“That’s me. I’m sorry, but he didn’t give me your name.” I stick out my hand and shake hers.

“I’m Jane Henriksen.”

“Please. Let’s have a seat. Would you like a cup of coffee?” I offer. It’s got to be nerve-wracking to be interviewed out of nowhere. She only had an hour’s notice.

“No, thank you.”

“Brie is the owner here, but she’s busy, so I’ll be conducting the interview.”

“My brother has nothing but wonderful things to say about Brie.” She blushes as she says that, knowing where my thoughts are going to go.

“Yes, well, she’s amazing. So tell me a little about you, Ms. Henriksen.”

We continue the meeting for ten minutes. She’s a perfect fit for the position. At eighteen, she goes to the local community college but doesn’t know what she wants to be just yet. I hire her and introduce her to Brie, so I can go to work and get my staff meeting over with and to Lia by eleven.

I leave, taking my briefcase and a fresh cup of hot coffee to go. I don’t normally eat whip cream or get an iced coffee, but Lia could get me to do anything as long as it’s not giving her up. I’m going to become her shadow as soon as I get this meeting over. I hate that we can’t be together and other guys are probably sitting next to her, finding excuses to talk to her or steal glances at her cleavage from her tight top.

I storm into my office building, staring down the security guard as if somehow he’s to blame for my sudden shitty mood. “Um…good morning, Mr. Williams.” I nod with my lips flattened and then head to the bank of elevators. It seems like an eternity for them to open. I should have taken my private elevator, but the next time I take that one, Lia will be with me.

Three other people surround the elevator waiting to get on. I may own the building, but I lease out several floors for different companies. “Shit, when’s Valentine’s Day,” a guy says, looking at a bouquet of flowers with a “Be My Valentine” heart balloon in the middle of the arrangement being carried by a delivery guy. Shit.
