“What the fuck was the fight over?”

“I don’t know. Stryker is always getting in fights, but if Ruin got involved, I’m sure it was worth it somehow.” He looks over his shoulder at Chaos who is red in the face and jaw tight. “He’s on the phone with a lawyer trying to see what we can do.”

“Jesus Christ,” I mutter under my breath.

Stryker has a short temper but he doesn’t deserve to go down for this. He still has his whole life ahead of him. And Ruin, we need him. This club isn’t the same without him here.

“Let’s ride!” Chaos hollers and we all head out, heading to the county jail.

Maybelline

Looking out the window, I saw Crow into the café’s parking lot before heading toward the club. God, I bet he doesn’t want anything to do with me now after I puked on him. I’m such an idiot. I shouldn’t have gone, I can’t believe Dime made me go to that damn party. I was scared the whole time and out of my element. I wish I was strong and brave but I’m not. Everything scares me. The dark, violence, death, falling in love, not falling in love. The roar of motorcycles has my head snap up and all of the Kings come rushing out of the club’s drive. The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, something is going on.

Crow

Several of us wait outside as Chaos goes in to bail out Ruin and Stryker, it doesn’t take long before all of them exit the building. Ruin and Stryker look like hell with hair a mess and faces bloodied up from the fight.

Stryker goes straight to Bash, telling him what happened and Ruin comes to the rest of us waiting by our bikes with a surprised look on his face.

“What?” North asks.

“Someone paid our bail.” I shrug. “Maybe one of the townspeople did?”

Chaos rubs his chin. “It crossed my mind, we have several people who owe us favors for doing some dirty work for them but the charges were dropped too.”

“How the fuck did that happen?” I ask, looking to North for an explanation. I’m new here, so I have no clue how they’d get the charges dropped unless someone threatened the victim?

“Don’t look at me, I don’t have a fucking clue.” North crosses his arms looking to Ruin for an answer but he shakes his head, just as clueless.

“What was the fight about?” Mako asks, looking at Stryker with a glare that could kill.

The club doesn’t need any more heat than they already have and Stryker’s short temper will gain more attention than needed. But that’s what this club does, they’re there for one another whether it’s for the right or wrong. Brothers before all others.

“Just running his mouth, but when he came to the club looking for back-up, I couldn’t leave my man hanging,” Ruin answers.

Stryker wasn’t sticking up for someone or being a hero, so that crosses off anyone paying off the bail and somehow getting the charges dropped as a thank you.

“It’s not often we get lucky, but we better buy a fucking lottery ticket or something because you motherfuckers got lucky.”

Riding back to the club, I notice the lights are still on inside Latte Da. They should be closed by now, so I pull open the front door and step inside. The cool air and fresh coffee beans amazing, the sight of Maybelline behind the counter isn’t too bad either. She has on an apron, her hair braided down the front, and flour all over her hands and even a smudge on her face. Squinting her eyes, her finger pointing at her phone, she focuses as if she’s reading something and turns around to grab something from the counter.

Coming closer, everything comes into view, she’s trying to bake. Turning back to her phone, she notices me and stills.

“Hey.” I smile, and her cheeks turn red.

“Hey… you caught me late tonight.” She looks up at the clock.

“Yeah, I’ve been caught up at the club and saw your lights on, so I thought I’d stop by.” She probably thinks puking on me turned me off or is feeling embarrassed but I haven’t been able to stop thinking about her to be honest.

“Look, I’m so sorry for puking on you the other night.” Words erupt from her like she’s been holding them in for days.

“It was nothing.” I tilt my head to the side “You… haven’t had anything to drink tonight have you?” Playfulness in my voice, she gives me a deadpan look making me laugh.

“I said sorry.”

“I know. I know, and to be fair, you warned me.” I walk along the counter, looking around the café as I talk to her.

Using the back of her hand, she brushes the hair from her face.

“I gotta learn how to make these stupid muffins tonight because Dime has some graduation stuff she has to do tomorrow morning.”
