“Is there a leak down here” Thad asked, noting a puddle by her feet as she stood running her hands over the smooth rocks in front of her.
She turned and felt a twinge that sent another gush to the ground. “That leak is coming from me. I think my water just broke.”
“Oh, God. Let’s get you to the hospital.
“I don’t have my bags or anything,” she protested.
‘I don’t think that matters. Barron can get them for you later.”
Less than three hours later, Jaycee gave birth to twin boys. She smiled up at Thad as she held them in either arm.
“Aren’t they just perfect?” she asked him.
“Yes, they are. Just like their mother,” he replied.
He took one from her and then the other, being so careful that she almost laughed at how awkward he seemed. It was as if he was afraid he was going to break them, but she had never seen such a sweet sight in her life. She’d never thought that this, giving birth and watching him hold their children, would make her so happy, but she was ecstatic.
Though she loved having a career and didn’t think she’d ever not want one, she was equally thrilled with this new part of her life and was happy that destiny had stepped in and done its part to change her mind.CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHTThad
Barron had moved the babies’ bassinets and things from Jaycee’s apartment to Thad’s. They would stay there until he could close on the new place and move them in.
The next few months were busy. Jaycee was on leave for a few months, but they decided they would use the time to plan a small wedding for a few family members and friends. They wanted to get married right away, but they would put the honeymoon off until the twins were a little bigger. Both agreed they didn’t want to leave them behind, so they would take a couple weeks away to someplace exotic with a nanny along to take care of the boys.
It was a sunny day in March when the two of them finally stood face to face in a large gazebo overlooking the river and said their vows. Tears streamed down Jaycee’s face as she was overcome by emotion. Applause went up from members of both his pack and hers as the officiant pronounced them man and wife and they kissed for the first time as a married couple.
Though they weren’t able to go on an official honeymoon just yet, Jaycee’s mother was more than happy to take the boys for the night while Thad took Jaycee on a boat ride to a place where they could truly be free. In the thick wooded area of the state park just off the coast, they undressed and ran free in what always felt like a more natural state, frolicking in the leaves, and enjoying the moonlight above them.
Jaycee stood on a rock and looked up at it for a moment, finally letting loose with a long, lingering howl and Thad stood beside her, realizing that it was the same howl he had heard months ago, before he had ever met here - the howl that had stopped him in his tracks and caused him to howl in return.
He finally joined her, letting out a mighty howl of his own. This time, it was her turn to stop and turn toward him. Did she remember too?
Later, lying naked in the grass, shifted back into human form, she turned to him, propping herself up on one elbow and twirling her fingers through the dark hair on his chest.
“It was you.”
“What was me?”
“That very first night in the city. When I shifted on my little rooftop and howled into the darkness. It was you that answered.”
“Yes.”
She smiled and leaned down to kiss him before climbing atop him, impaling herself on his already hard cock. They made love slowly, her hips grinding into his as her beautiful body captured the moonlight and every piece of him along with it as she exploded against him repeatedly until he could no longer hold back.
She leaned down on him, his cock still buried inside her and rested her head on his chest. This was heaven, and if he died tomorrow, this is what he would take to the grave with him. Memories of what perfection he had found in her, of the birth of their children and of this night. This one perfect night when they had run through the woods, howled at the moon, and made love beneath the stars.
It was a place they would return to on this night in the years to come, a tradition born and maintained over the years as their family grew from four to eventually, ten. Jaycee would go on to start her own company while Thad would step away from his, instead dedicating himself to their seven Alpha sons and one Omega daughter, teaching them all the skills they would need to be successful in life as equals.
