“We should buy that townhouse next to my mother’s and turn it into a dungeon. We could let our friends use it when we’re not there.”
“She would love that.”
“But we would be so close to her!”
“Would you shut up and kiss me?”
I do shut up, and I do kiss her.
There are a lot of things I look forward to accomplishing in my life. Used to be I wondered if I would ever get married. Not in that, “Woe is me, I am forever alone!” way, but in that, “Huh, I wonder if I will ever get married... I can’t even imagine it...” way. Now I don’t have to wonder. Maybe Kathryn and I won’t sign another marriage license for five more years. Maybe ten. Hell, maybe we’ll finally take the legal plunge when we’re sixty and our parents are long gone. Maybe we’ll have a wedding ceremony long before that, but not actually sign any papers. Maybe we’ll elope a year from now and not tell anyone.
Whatever happens, she’ll always be my wife. That’s something that happened in Vegas that will always stay with us.
