“A few.” She shrugged. “You seem to forget that you were the one who usually pushed me away.”
“For your protection,” I said in my defense. “I never wanted this life for you, but I couldn’t imagine my life without you in it.”
“Kali said your brothers make her feel like she’s suffocating. I couldn’t imagine having two of you dictate my every move. I would lose my mind.”
I stroked her cheek with my fingers. “If someone took her, we will kill every man responsible. I promise we will find Kali.”
“Alive?”
I nodded. “That’s the goal.”
Alex pressed her lips to mine. “I wish I could stay right here with you forever.”
