She let him change the subject, because she was starting to sweat. “You are sharp. I’m not sure what he’d call himself, but I’m pretty sure we would call him fallen angel.”
Jake’s eyebrows shot up. “What? He’s got wings?”
“A gorgeous dark pair to match the rest of the rest of him. You jealous?”
“Not a bit. I know who’s gonna be in your bed in…” He glanced at his watch. “…in four hours and forty-five minutes.”
She sat back, shaking her head. “You must have been freaked when I popped out in the park.”
He shrugged and looked away. “Maybe for a minute. But someone told me it would be okay if I just waited a minute or two.”
Chapter 8
The rest of their shift had been blessedly quiet. They’d had plenty of time to talk. Sin filled him in on the secret room at the back of the coin shop and about meeting the team. Jake told her about Danny leading him to the portal. She wondered if Danny was going to stick around, and if he meant to continue to help them in some way. In any event, she filed it away as something else to mention to Detective Petrakis the next time they met.
Sin insisted on meeting at Jake’s place after work. With dawn breaking through the trees, she pulled up in front of his small house, parking next to the curb since the driveway could only accommodate Jake’s big truck. Set in an older subdivision at the edge of the trendy Alamo Heights district, the house had charm, even if the yard needed a little color. With a brown stone façade, tin roof and rust-colored trim, the house looked exactly as it had the last time she’d been here. Beyond well-trimmed shrubs, a scrupulously mowed lawn, and a wealth of old shade trees, she thought roses might be nice, and perhaps some golden lantana and purple Mexican sage.
The door opened, and light spilled out behind Jake, who stood shirtless in opening, his arms spread, hands gripping the edge of the door and the frame.
All that bronze-skinned masculinity waiting to welcome her, to enfold her in warmth… A delicious shiver worked its way up her spine and drew her nipples taut.
Sin got out of her car and walked slowly toward him, wondering if he’d appreciate the effort she’d taken with her appearance. She’d showered, slipped on a little thigh-high black skirt and a T-shirt that zipped all the way down the front.
“Thought you’d changed your mind you took so long getting here,” he said, his voice a gravelly caress that had her panties dampening instantly.
“We had a conversation to finish,” she said, halting on his doorstep and giving his yummy chest a slow once-over.
Jake’s nostrils flared. Had he caught a whiff of the perfume she’d dabbed behind her ears and between her breasts? “And there I thought we’d just about talked ourselves out,” he growled again.
She arched one eyebrow and gave him a sultry look from beneath her mascara’d eyelashes. “You said you loved me.”
“Oh, and now you think you have to tell me you love me, too? Baby, I already figured that one out.”
“Smart man.”
“You keep saying that like you’re surprised.”
“I am, considering I’m not wearing a scrap of underwear beneath this skirt, and you’re blocking the door.”
Holding his gaze, Sin smoothed her hands down the front of her thighs, then glided them up, bringing the hem of her short skirt with them.
Jake let go of the door and latched onto her arm, hauling her across the threshold. He slammed the door shut, then pressed her body against it, sliding a foot between hers and nudging them apart.
Sin grinned, reaching for his shoulders. “Gonna frisk me, now?”
“Have to see if you’ve come packing.”
She slowly slid her hand over the bulge at the front of his blue jeans. “No, but looks like you have.”
He quickly tugged her skirt up inside out, ran his hands over her backside, cupped her bottom, and lifted her.
Sin wound her legs around his waist. “Now, how am I supposed to get to that zipper,” she gasped, as he squeezed her ass hard.
He released one cheek and fumbled for a minute between their bodies, until his zipper scraped, and he wrestled his jeans downward.
His cock slipped between her legs, full and thick.
She pressed down on his shoulders, lifting herself as he sank his hips and came up, sliding right inside her. “Jake,” she groaned as he began to grind, down then up, working his way inside her until he’d buried himself.
