Sleeping with the Enemy (An Enemies to Lovers Collection) - Page 211

The night had progressed and we’d found ourselves wrapped in each other’s arms in my dorm room. I remember her soft lips and how innocent her touches were. She’d told me something that had really surprised me, but at the same time, for some reason had secretly delighted me. I can remember her shyly moving my hand onto her breast and how it felt. We were taking it slow getting to know each other’s bodies while we still had our clothes on. I was sliding on top of her when there was a loud commotion outside the dorm room and someone started banging on my door, jolting us from our passion.

I’d gotten up, and as I opened the door, it was shoved back. Todd and Celeste had stormed into my room. He was accusing me of having sex with his girlfriend. I was as stunned as Carla was by the accusation. Only Carla was stunned because she clearly thought I’d known Celeste was with Todd and I hadn’t. Celeste had assured me she and Todd were just friends and nothing more.

Todd had dragged Carla from the room without letting me explain. Celeste had stayed behind. No sooner had my door been slammed shut had Celeste tried to seduce me. I pushed her way. She had become furious at me for rejecting her and flew into a rage sprouting horrible things about Carla such as calling her a slut. I had dispelled her of that rumor, not realizing I had given Celeste ammunition to use against Carla. After that, the entire situation had spiraled out of control.

Todd and I had made up and become friends again. He’d even taken Celeste back. But the damage Celeste had done to Carla’s reputation because of my slipup had been irreparable to Carla. She became known as the frigid queen, and it was only later that I found out there were guys in who even made bets about who would be the first to get the frigid queen in bed.

This whole thing took a life of its own and even caused a rift in Carla’s friendship with Todd who had taken Celeste and my side. Even with Drew and Hayley, there had been a whole lot of fiction because of the whole thing.

A knock at my door jolted me back to reality. I looked at my watch. I’d been in the bath for nearly forty minutes. I jumped out of the bath and wrapped a towel around my waist to go answer the door.

CHAPTER 13

Carla

I was feeling really bad for kicking Damon where it hurt men the most. So, I bought him a bottle of his favorite whiskey and took it to him. Garry had told me he’d given Damon a lot of ice and some pills for the pain.

I stood outside the door to his room for a few minutes before finally plucking up the courage to knock. He didn’t take long to answer, and I was not expecting him to answer the door half naked.

I was greeted to a tanned lean muscled chest and washboard abs. His long, lean fingers clutched the small towel that barely wrapped around him and showed off his long legs. I swallowed as my eyes finally met him to find him looking at me with a raised eyebrow and lopsided grin. I could feel my cheeks grow hot.

“Does this make us even for the beach incident?” He asked cheekily, thoroughly enjoying my discomfort at his nakedness.

“I was on a beach in front of a lot of people,” I croaked.

“Fair enough,” he grinned.

“I… uh,” I swallowed again and my mouth felt so dry. I cleared my throat. “Drew said you liked this whiskey.” I held the box out in front of me. “Think of it as an apology for the kick.”

“I do like this whiskey,” He took the box with his free hand. “Thank you.” He stepped aside. “Would you like to come in and share a glass with me?”

“I…” My heart started to race as butterflies started to wreak havoc in the pit of my stomach.

“I think you owe me a drink,” he guilted me, “and maybe a bite to eat? I was about to order room service.”

“Are you going to put on some clothes?” I asked him.

“Only if you want me to.” Damon’s voice dipped and his eyes darkened.

“I think so.” I nodded and bravely stepped into the lion’s den.

Damon put on a pair of pajama pants and an old T-shirt. We were on our third glass of whiskey when room service finally got there. I was starving. After tucking into a nice dinner, we were late getting to the karaoke night and got a severe talking to by the bride and groom.

The night progressed without incident on both our parts. We’d extended our silent truce and I was actually starting to enjoy Damon’s company. We’d even sang a few duets because I may not be able to dance but I could sing. After multiple encores and almost losing my voice after singing The Power of Love, we wrapped up the night.
