Sleeping with the Enemy (An Enemies to Lovers Collection) - Page 218

Little miss trying-to-get-rid-of-me Carla was going to be in for a big surprise today. I still owed her for crashing my golf and poker days. It was time for my group to crash on her events. Not only were we going to crash it; we were taking it over and making them look like they crashed our day. That would teach her to sneakily try to get rid of me. I was really thankful when Drew had defended me to Hayley and Carla. I thought all the stress was getting to Drew and he needed a nice relaxing day.

I grinned as I headed down to the hotel bus that was ready and waiting to take the men to their event for the day. As we pulled off, I saw Carla walk into the lobby. She was wearing a light-yellow sundress and strappy sandals. How did she always manage to look so serenely beautiful and untouched? If only she wasn’t such an ice queen with a chip on her shoulder when it came to me.

I gave her a grin and saluted as our eyes met through the window of the hotel bus. I saluted her when the bus pulled off and she gave me a cool narrowed eyed stare that spoke volumes to me. I sat back in my seat and sighed. This was going to be a good day. I couldn’t wait to see the look on Princess Carla’s face when she realized she’s double booked.

I thought the men were going to be a little disappointed we were having a spa day but they weren’t. They were all surprisingly excited about it. We’d split up into different groups to have different treatments. I was the only one that wanted to try the mud bath. I had a towel tightly wrapped around my waist and was about to take off my towel and slip into the warm mud when I heard a commotion coming from the hallway.

“You!” The door to the mud bath room burst open and a red-faced Carla blew in like a hurricane. Her eyes were blazing and her chest rose and fell with every angry breath she sucked in. “How dare you steal our reservations!”

Wow! I thought. I’d seen Princess Carla mad before but this was pure red rage type of anger.

I made sure my towel was secure around my waist. I didn’t want to have to face this storm butt naked. I leaned slightly back and crossed my arms over my chest. I was standing my ground. Men deserved a spa day just as much as women did.

“How dare you steal our spa day,” Carla hissed once again. “You’re already on thin ice with Hayley for the outfits and flowers. Do you want to know how she’s feeling right now?” Her eyes shot daggers at me. “She went directly to Drew when she heard who’d taken our spot. Out of all the events.” Carla’s one finger pointed down to the floor. “This was the one she was looking forward to the most. We had to book this spa eight months in advance.”

Uh-oh! I did not know that this was Hayley’s favorite day. That would explain why it was highlighted in orange and ringed in red a few times on Carla’s itinerary.

“I thought Drew could use a day at the spa,” I stood my ground. I won’t back down or feel guilty. “I left you the tickets for a day on the ice at the ice-hockey arena.” I shrugged. “The hockey players are looking forward to teaching the ladies how to play ice hockey.”

I raised my one eyebrow and grinned at her. In hindsight, I thought that mocking her like that was not a good idea, because if I thought Carla was angry before, I’d tipped her over the edge into fury. She came at me like a little bull and shoved me. I was taken by shock and surprise as I was knocked off balance. I felt myself start to fall, so I reached out, and grabbed hold of Carla to steady myself. Only she was not strong enough to steady me and we both toppled into the mud pool, sloshing a tidal wave of mud everywhere, including all over us.

“You absolute freakin’ idiot,” Carla hardly ever swore but as she spluttered and slipped about trying to get up, I stayed still. “What is wrong with you?” She managed to sit up, not realizing she was straddling my now naked, very aroused body.

“Uh, Carla,” I cleared my throat, trying hard not to swallow as I had a mouth full of really awful tasting mud. “Please don’t move around like you are.”

“What?” Carla’s hair, face, and body were plastered in mud. She wiped the mud off her face with a muddy hand and smudged the mud even more.

“I’m asking you not to move,” I warned her again. “You are sitting rather seductively on my naked body,” I pointed out.
