The Diamond Syndicate - Page 61

Diamond stepped over the girl’s body and grabbed the phone receiver from off the top of the phone box.

“Hello?”

“Who dis?” the male on the other end of the phone asked.

“This is Diamond.”

“Who you? Where is Michelle?”

“Oh, she’s out right now. She will have to call you back. Bye-bye.”

Diamond disconnected the call and proceeded to make a call of her own.

“Yes, collect from Diamond,” she told the operator who came on the line. Diamond kept her eyes on the young girl lying on the floor, still out cold.

It seemed as if no one cared or wanted any part of Diamond after witnessing the sick right hook she’d landed on the girl.

The party accepted the call.

“What’s up?” Diamond asked.

“What up, Diamond? I’m on it,” Trey said.

“I just wanted to make sure you were.”

“Come on, don’t insult my intelligence like that.”

“That’s not my intention. I just wanted you to know we ain’t got much time. Be clean about it.”

“No doubt. Always.” Trey disconnected the call.

Diamond hung up and looked around at the girls who still stood in line. She looked down at the girl that she had put on her back and saw that she was starting to come to. Diamond stepped over the young girl and walked back to her cell, content now that her business was handled.

Tammy was wheeling herself down a hill, but the wheelchair got away from her, and she couldn’t control it as it barreled down the hill at a high speed. She knew she was going to die because every time she tried to place her hands on the rubber part of the wheel to steer it or stop it, the rubber would burn the inside of her hands.

Finally she reached the bottom of the hill, and to her surprise, she came rolling to a stop. She breathed a sigh of relief and looked around at her surroundings. She noticed Diamond and Dante were running toward her. They both carried guns and began to fire at her. She grabbed the wheels of the wheelchair and began to push with all her might, trying to escape.

Bullets whizzed past her head, causing her to scream. She headed for the same hill she had just come down because that was the only place to go. She pushed and pushed up the hill, with no progress. She looked behind her, and they were closing in on her. The more she pushed up the hill, the more her wheelchair rolled backward.

“You snitch!” Diamond yelled behind her and fired more bullets.

Tammy woke up screaming. She knew she wouldn’t get back to sleep anytime soon, so she decided to get some ice cream and pound cake. She was gonna sit in front of the TV and watch old movies until she fell asleep.

She sat in front of the TV trying to focus on the movie, but her mind kept wandering as she thought about the testimony she was going to give against her old friend that Monday. Tammy fought with herself about testifying, but a visit from the young prosecutor changed her mind. Peter advised her that, if she knew anything about Diamond’s illegal actions, she too would serve time in jail as an accomplice, unless she agreed to testify against Diamond.

Tammy was terrified of going to jail. She knew she didn’t do anything wrong, so going to jail wasn’t an option for her. She prayed on it and decided testifying would be the best thing to do as a Christian.

She nodded off periodically while sitting in front of the television. Then she thought she heard a noise coming from her bedroom. She listened intently for a moment, but heard nothing else. She put her empty bowl on the coffee table and readjusted herself in her chair. She refocused on the movie that played on the television.

A few minutes later, she was in a deep sleep, her chin resting on her chest.

The male figure emerged from her bedroom and crept along the linoleum floor. As Tammy snored lightly, the light from the TV illuminated the living ro

om. He stood directly behind Tammy and watched her sleep. In one swift movement, the gunman put a pillow to her head and pulled the trigger. Down from the pillow mixed with blood and brain fragments splattered everywhere as Tammy sat there slumped in her wheelchair, the back of her head missing.

In a flash, the intruder left Tammy’s apartment the same way he’d come in—through the bedroom window.
